Me too; so I've created one in hopes that we can become known enough to be scouted or accepted when we ask to be signed by someone one day in the future.
It's going very slow so far. We are 3 members: bass, gita, drums. 2 of us are studied in vocals but we don't feel confident as the sound we are aiming for. We need a vocalist from this area [oc/la maybe san diego even] IF YOU ARE A DEEP, LOW &/OR RICJ TONED VOCALIST AND WANNA SING FOR A JROCK/VKEI GENRE BAND... CONTACT ME!!!!!!!!
Anyways, it's been almost a year since this idea formed. I met two girls in Japanese class last summer. One day we were waiting for a bus, when one of them told me she was learning keyboard again. I asked to give her bass lessons in exchange for teaching me piano. She said we could practice together though she didn't want to learn bass, but our other friend who was about to learn drums wanted to also learn the bass. I said fine, if we all practiced i would teach one bass and help them with transportation if they teach me what they knew. It would be mostly for fun and to practice with each other.
In time, one of their closest friends wanted to learn guitar, so we agreed she should join us for this idea of practicing music. We began a club so we could meet and have a room and possible funding at the school. It started out great. I was the only real expereinced member, so I suggested trying covers as they began learning their instruments. Eventually a 5th friend joined us. We found out that 3 of our 5 wanted to seriously persue this kind of career. So we formed into a band with one song and mostly only hope as our results. Before the only song we made was complete to even practice together, our 5th member was asked to leave. Feeling as though she only joined for one reason, we saw it as an obstacle and in our determination, urged her to continue working for her main goals with warm promises to allow her to practice the guitar in the club whenever she wanted. We never heard from her. The 4th member became too busy and being such close friends at this point, we agreed that she should go work for her dreams and to always feel welcomed back when she wanted to play in the band again. With her permission, we continued in a whole new direction with a new band name and style. We deactivated our club at the school and focused soulfully on this new band, becoming serious about this career choice and high hopes to one day move to Japan.
Since then we have had 2 songs, neither completed. Being very careful about our first time composing music and creating full Japanese lyrics, we have taken our time and merely practiced playing by covering other Jrock artists. We worked hard on our name, stage names, visual concept and sound we all want to create. We all love the lower spectrum of pitch. With a heavy drum and bass line, our dream is to have a Kamjio-like vocalist. Though we have romantic, inspiring and heart breaking lyrics, our sound is very raw like Mucc or D'espairsRay. Our main inspirations being these as well as The GazettE, Bourn, and the effortless grace that Versailles conveys. My drummer and I teach each other our respective instruments. Our guitarist is working hard, being new to it. Though we both have had some vocal training, we agree to not having the sound we aim for as well as wanting to mainly play rather than sing. We still are in search of someone who will be a good image for our voice and convey our messages with a great sound. And so, this is where we currently are.
I personally have the feeling of being obligated to learn everything. If my guitarist is struggling, I will want to help them. But I can't if I don't know how to play at all. I also have been studying theory to help compose quicker since I forgot all my high school learning. And I'm working daily on my voice just in case we can't find a vocalist by the time we catch up to ourselves and are ready to go public. My main worry is over the 'screaming'. I've looked up all the right and wrong ways to do so and can easily tell when the practice feels dangerous. I plan to eventually go solo one day, and so it makes sense to me to learn all this now to help my band out. I will not treat them as my support band, because right now, we are all the constitutionalists and we work equally to create this dream. Once we are ready to perform, I will kick my websites into gear, revealing our band name and put my accounts into use in the name of my stage self. I'm practicing Japanese with much care this whole year and hope to begin Korean for the next fall semester. Then I'll study Mandarin as well as Vietnamese. I might dabble into Indonesian or Spanish for the fun of it another time as well. That being said, I should get back to studying.
