This post is in response to jordar5's post on change. I do believe change is always bad. I mean, look at how change affected Karen Eiffel's story. In the movie, Stranger than Fiction, Karen Eiffel changed the end of the story in order to save Harold's life. According to Dr. Jules, she had ruined the perfect story and only made it an acceptable story. Sure, she saved a life or two by learning about Harold before she finished typing up her book, but who doesn't want to go down in history as the person who killed people in order to have a good book ending? And what about Harold and the change that happened in his life over the life of the movie. When Harold started out, he had a meaningful job and a peaceful life. Sure, his job may not have been very fun, but what is fun, exactly? Is it the crazy parts where life decides to throw a curveball at you, or is it someone's ability to enjoy the mundane parts of life? As the movie continues, Harold begins to experience radical changes. He gives up his job to stay at home and learn how to play the guitar, and then he goes after one of the women he is auditing. Not only does he lose his job by doing this, he also has the potential to go to jail for being in a relationship with one of his former victims. I mean, sure, he learns an invaluable skill that allows him to express his emotions in a deeper way and gains the love of one of the most beautiful women in the world to him, but who really wants love? He'll end up having troubles with her and divorcing her anyways. So change is always a bad thing, and you won't get me to change my position on that!
