Friday Five, a la lordameth

1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.

My father has always refused to tell me who I'm named after, including last Christmas when I asked him. I think he suggested it because it meant a lot to him, and my Mom liked the name, and the song. My middle name, however, is a family name. The two Corinne's I recall in my family were my Great Aunt "Sis", whose middle name was Corinne, and my Great Grandmother, who raised my father.

2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?

I've thought about it. I like the name Isaac, partially in homage to my best friend of 13 years. It seems like every name I really liked growing up has suddenly become very mainstream. I'd probably, for a girl, pick something unique, interesting, pretty, not too popular, and likely Irish/foreign. To be honest, one name I really like is Phoenix, though I often get strange looks for that.

For a boy, something unique, interesting, and won't get him beat up on the playground.

3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?

My younger brother, Matthew, was born just over 2 years after me. I assume I would have been a Matthew. As it is, we have the same initials. I have no doubt I would have been Matthew Charles instead of Melissa Corinne.

4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?

This is tough, because I've really grown to like my name. When I was a youngster with missing front teeth, I loved the name Sierra Cheyenne. I absolutely hated my name, and the only thing worse in my opinion, was being called Missy. I thought Corinne was an old persons name, so I hated that as well. Now that I'm older, I'm really attached to my name. I really like it, and I don't think I'd change it.

5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?

My dad once wrote "Happy Birthday, Mellisa" in my birthday card on my 15th birthday. That is the most common misspelling. The other is my last name: McHugh, McQue, McCu, Miccue and MacQue are all misspellings I get all the time. It's 5 letters, people. Not too hard.
