Fridays are fun. I love Fridays. More so the Fri-after 5's than the actual "day" part, since I have to work during the day.
I have to say, there is something to be said hanging out with coworkers at 4:58 pm on a Friday, drinking a few beers, coming home, eat pizza, and chill with the nice people you live with when there is no evil roommate to be found.
Plus, I got not one, but two comments on my appearance today. One of my coworkers stated that it's great when a woman piles her hair on top of her head- it gives better access to the neck. He then thought about what he said, and how it could be taken, and tried to back peddle faster than Lance Armstrong on superfast rewind. Knowing this guy, it was certainly not taken as a sexual advance- it was just funny to watch the uncomfortableness afterwards.
The other was a guy that said red is a good color- as he was staring at my chest. It was just funny to me he couldn't look me in the eyes to say something like that- his head was at a very difinitive 45 degree angle. I'm flattered, but...wow. I prefer the discreet types who tell me I'm beautiful or say something witty/clever instead. I chuckled, I brushed it off as a compliment, and decided to just remind myself I'm with someone who genuinely feels great about me all the time: not just when I wear the right shirt or tie my hair up on top of my head to get it off of my neck (fucking humidity!)
Working with all software types is certainly a fun environment for me. Some people may take them the wrong way- they are sometimes just trying to be sincere without the conoctations that could easily be taken. I guess you just have to know these guys to understand. Some are socially awkward. Some are genuine. Some try too hard to be funny, but figure out themselves in the process. Some are guys that I would hang out with on the weekends if schedules allowed. I really will miss them all come December.
Sometimes, you just get to brag about silly insignificance and that somehow makes you feel better. A little Jim Beam for free helps as well.
Happiness.
