The above subject is actually supposed to look like "A Long Awaited Drinking Party Update". Fans of the "Myth" series from Bungie in the '90s will understand. Oh well.
Well, today I got my very first 1.5 million dollar order to handle, and the account manager is being a dumbass with it and trying to circumvent the system. Wheee. Aside from that, the new job is going pretty well. I've got 6 deals I'm working on now (Edric has 13, Carrie has 19) and I'm finally starting to get busy on a more consistent basis, which feels more natural to me after the pace of my last department.
Tomorrow we're flying to South Carolina to visit Kelly's mom. It's nice to have one's fiancee living with you or in the area, but one of the best things about having a long-distance significant other is that you always have an excuse to get on a plane. Hehe. Just kidding.
The townhouse living situation is going pretty well. There've been a few clashes here and there, but nothing significant yet. Frank and Krystal are pretty responsible people to live with, though they need to keep us more up to date with the bills and what needs to be paid when.
I've discovered a new love: painting little Warhammer figurines. It's a bit of trouble getting started, but once I do, I can do it for hours. It's fun and one of the few artistic things I'm actually good at. Plus, it's nice to remember that I actually can create something that looks decent.
I fried my computer a few nights ago. I bought a memory upgrade to finally make use of the dual channel memory; as far as I could tell, it was the same specs as my old memory. Well, it was either defective or somehow incompatible with my motherboard. When I plugged it in, I got a horrendous high-pitched repeated shriek from my computer, and it told me that there was a "Drive A ROM error" or something like that. I tried reseating both memory chips, tried booting up with only the new memory chip, and finally gave up, only to find that my old memory wasn't working either. After a few reboots, I got it to start working again, but I found that the reboots had somehow cleared out the motherboard's CMOS, which is the settings that tell the various components how to run. A side effect of this was that Norton GoBack, which is a program that infects installs itself in your boot sector, became corrupt. Because it loads before Windows does, I now can no longer start up my computer. I'm trying out a couple of solutions for the problem, but who knows if they'll end up working out. At least I have the laptop.
There have been some serious delays in the release of FRAGMENTATION's second song. Unfortunately, we're currently reliant on Rob's technical knowledge and hardware to record our vocals, and so we're kind of constrained by his schedule. We tried recording a couple of weeks ago, but my vocal effects somehow ended up sounding like one of the Transformers. So tonight we have to go and tweak my vocoder settings, and re-record what we weren't satisfied with. Last week we were supposed to get this done, but Rob had to cancel on us.
Progress on the third song is going well, and with a bit of luck we'll be able to release it within a couple weeks of the second. At that point I expect us to change the full download of Retribution into a sample, and start actual sales of the single CD. We also need to create a flyer, and maybe a little bit of merchandise like a patch or something.
We got DirecTV for the first time the other day; it's pretty nice, though I'm not 100% thrilled with the quality. Oh well...it's really cool having a "Tivo" system in the bedroom.
That's about all I have the time to write for now. Until next time!
