Is this whole situation making you paranoid?
Less trustworthy of the federal government...

Yup, you and me both.

I'm pretty happy with my state and county level leadership though (I think we're in the same state but wildly different counties)... I feel Arlington will come out of this one just fine.

Most of VA’s county responses are being coordinated at the state level through VDH and the regional commissions, so everywhere should be on essentially the same page with stuff being implemented based on number & concentration of infections. They saw what was happening in WA and NY and were like “nope, no thanks”.

That makes sense! I'd say that the differences among regions in Virginia are largely driven by compliance (Arlington is doing a pretty good job at following directions and not being stupid... at least after one last large night out for many on March 14!). That, and Lynchburg is a special case: the head of one of the universities there reopened the campus in open defiance of the mayor and the governor! I'm so glad I'm not in or near there right now...

Yeah I heard about that. Liberty has always been ridiculous. Though I’d be interested in how much worse off Lynchburg is compared to other major university towns: even though everywhere closed pretty quick, most still had a LOT of students come back after spring break. Tech’s president ended up sending out a very strongly message under pressure from the town of Blacksburg because of all the partying. And the New River region’s first case came from a Radford student.

Given the lack of testing and the lack of scrutiny on closed campuses, I don’t think we will ever be able to accurately compare, but Lynchburg has roughly the same number of confirmed cases as Blacksburg. (Not to defend or mitigate Falwell’s stupidity. I’ve hated that whole family since I lived there 13ish years ago lol)
