Memeing it up while waiting to finish prep

Dec 03, 2014 10:00

This hasn't been a particularly exciting week yet (though phone hell was involved when setting up my mail order prescription... to the point I was happy when I was called 'sir' instead of 'ma'am' when calling back what turned out to be a wrong number)

but as I finish up my prep for a procedure this afternoon, I thought I might as well do an end-of-year meme!

This meme has been taken from several people; most recently wasureneba.

1. Will you be looking for a new job?
No; while I expect to put my resume out there at some point (i.e. sending out 'feelers' just because I can), I see myself staying in my current position until at least 2016 or 2017. It should be worth noting, though, that my answer would have been very different 3 weeks ago!

2. Will you be looking for a new relationship?
Definitely. Moving around a lot has made it really hard to even try to date... and while I at least managed to go on a couple of dates this fall, I was generally completely 'meh' about them by the end of (and sometimes by the beginning of) the dates themselves..

In fact, the difficulty of dating in this particular neighborhood is one of the main reasons I want to move somewhere like Northern Virginia when I can!

3. New house?
YES! I would probably try to move out NOW if the lease didn't say I would be responsible for the remainder of the year's rent (7 months! At least I would 'only' have to pay the rent; not parking, utilities, or Internet) anyway. For details, look at my last two posts, but basically I plan on moving to Arlington or Alexandria when my rental agreement ends... given that spending a Sunday morning/afternoon just hanging out and performing 'usual' weekend activities there, INCLUDING grocery shopping, felt like a true vacation compared to where I live now.

4. What will you do different in 2015?
I won't be a student in London like I was in the first half of 2014, that's for sure! Really, I expect the first 7 months of 2015 to look a lot like the end of 2014 (except that now that mail order prescriptions are set up I won't be paying $450/month for my monthly pills)... and the main difference is that after that, I will be living in a neighborhood of my choosing, not one my parents tried to convince me I would 'love'!

5. New Years resolution?
I REALLY don't believe in them; setting goals on January 1 because everyone does them only to abandon them by Martin Luther King day is NOT my style!

6. What will you not be doing in 2015?
I won't be a full time student, paying money to go to school.

7. Any trips planned?
Still trying to build up savings and leave for that! My brother wants me to visit him next month for one of his innovative concerts... and the ONLY reason that might be viable is that it's during a 3 day weekend.

8. Wedding plans?
I haven't even stayed close enough to high school friends to be invited to *their* weddings!

9. Major thing(s) on your calendar?
July 31 or August 1 is the day my lease ends... and, as much as I HATE dealing with everything involving moving (and the bureaucracy of switching everything over to a new state), I think that moving will be completely worth it!

10. What can't you wait for?
See 3, 4, and 9 above: I can't wait to move out of Baltimore and into Northern Virginia!

11. What would you like to see happen different?
Basically I want more in-person close friends and would love to have a dating life that actually works instead of occasional dates with people I'm not exactly excited about seeing. Careerwise, things seem to finally be going smoothly for now, though by the end of next year, I'll be saving $800/mo relative to much of this year due to my prescription cost going way down and living somewhere that's both cheaper and way more interesting.

12. What about yourself will you be changing?
I'm perfect the way I am! Seriously, though, I don't expect to change that much about myself - though it would be nice if my ulcerative colitis subsided a bit.

13. What happened in 2014 that you didn't think would ever happen?
I finally managed to get a (semi?) long term job... 2 years after I sent in the application. (The first time I sent out an application there, though for a summer position, was 12 years ago!)
Also, I ended up getting glasses... which I didn't expect to need as I can still comfortably pass the eye exam in Maryland (whose standards are the most stringent of all 50 states) for driving, but reading math from a blackboard - and city driving in bad weather - can't be done with 20/30 vision and are a stretch even at 20/25.

14. Will you be nicer to the people you care about?
Lifted DIRECTLY from wasureneba (minus the emoticon):

"Well, I definitely hope so. (And I think more importantly, I hope I'll be nicer to the people who I don't care about. That's much harder.)"

15. Will you dress differently this year than you did in 2014?
About the same, I expect; hopefully I won't need to break out winter clothes THAT often!

16. Will you start or quit drinking?
No, though I might drink SLIGHTLY less after moving if drinking isn't as integral to hanging out there as it is here.

17. Will you better your relationship with your family?
I would like to think so; I have always known that I am uncomfortable if I'm living in an area that my parents know better than I do... regardless of the actual distance from that area to them (it at least gives me more control - allowing me to make my own life and my own impressions independently of what my parents think.) Especially if there are no close friends within a comfortable distance... it's too easy for me to revert back to my teenage mentality!

18. Will you do charity work?
I'm not expecting to; it's a mix of the time and energy I have that seems to be the big issue here. (Also, I get the distinct feeling that one of those trusts superficiality suggested... which I'm still far away from being able to THINK about starting... would do a lot more good.)

19. Will you go to bars?
Yes, even though I hate the loud noise at many places! The neighborhood I live in is essentially all bars... though I tend to prefer to go on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to avoid the noise/crowds/whatever (forget about actually meeting people at them!)

20. Will you be nice to people you don't know?
I'll definitely try, though it can be hard to be nice to people who are actively aggravating you!

21. Do you expect 2015 to be a good year for you?
I expect it to be relatively stable with things to look forward to, at least...

22. How much did you change from this time last year till now?
Not that much, although I did end the 'student' phase of my life at least! Time HAS become more of an issue, though - and I think I have a rough outlook on the next few years, but where I'll be after 2017 or 2018 is still a huge question mark.

23. Do you plan on having a child?
No; even if I were to meet the girl of my dreams today and we fell immediately in everlasting love, the earliest I would intend to become a dad is late 2016 (i.e. marry after 1 year, start trying shortly after that).

Obviously even that is far from what I actually intend, but I do want to end up with exactly one kid when all is said and done.

24. Will you still be friends with the same people you are friends with now?
Yes, but I definitely want to add new ones I can regularly see in person seeing as I have no personal ties to this area (despite growing up around here) other than work and parents!

25. Major lifestyle changes?
Isn't that a code word for "diet" or something? I don't really foresee any such changes...

26. Will you be moving?
I REALLY hope so, as much as I hate the actual move itself: see 3, 4, 9, and 10.

27. What will you make sure doesn't happen in 2015 that happened in 2014?
Not feeling physically trapped in a location that never seemed 'right' to me at all.

28. What are your New Years Eve plans?
Probably I'll go to some overpriced event in the area just to do something; my New Years events have never been all that fun, but... why not?

29. Will you have someone to kiss at midnight?
Unless I have amazing relationship luck in the next 4 weeks, no (with the exception of maybe some random person right at midnight).

30. One wish for 2015?
For my love life to actually go smoothly for a change!
