Well,
galacticvoyeur closed on the sale of his house today - yippee! Sold to the adorable girl with the multicolored hair. She is so excited, and he was so relieved. We can now move onward into the future with no boat anchors around our collective feet.
We had a lovely "mini-moon" at our favorite hideway, Callahan Lake, near Hayward, WI. We got there ahead of the summer crowds and the mosquitoes, and it was just blissful. Can't wait to go back, maybe after Labor Day, when the campers have gone back to school and the mosquitoes have gone back to wherever it is they go until next year. The summer season up there is brief, so most vacations (I think this is my ninth, or so) are pretty tolerable, weatherwise. As long as you come prepared for the occasional afternoon shower (or week-long rainstorm, some years) it is a wonder to behold. We bring lots of books and games and art supplies and have never suffered. Oh, and we always bring lots of groceries.
Have you noticed how whenever the sun comes out lately, it seems like the entire city is mowing the lawn? What is up with this? Why are they always just outside MY window? It's either power mowers or gas-fired weed wackers or lawn vacuums or leaf howitzers. Sheesh. I remember the sound of push mowers and rakes as being quite bucolic, but you don't hear those much nowadays. I suppose that once the sun decides to stay for a while this will all settle out, but I am sure tired of those noisy things. Grrr...
On the other hand, it is summer, and that is never a bad thing. I can't wait to get out in the garden and rake and hoe and remove last year's dried up stuff and a few healthy weeds. Since this is a new garden for us, I have my daughter's trusty field guide to local plants so that I don't rip out anything I shouldn't. Discovered that the giant stalk of sweet-smelling yellow flowers is horseradish. Why would someone plant horseradish? Go figure. I am always happy to share - it can be harvested after the first frost. The asparagus has been delicious and plentiful - now there's a crop that I can get used to.
Now to get back to unpacking and fixing up the house for maximum enjoyment!
