Well, everyone else is doing an election post. I guess I ought to do one. I've been pretty quiet this cycle, mostly because of a feeling of ambivalence on who's likely going to win. That remains with this Democratic victory. My worry remains, as it has been for months and months, that a Democratic victory is enough to simply give the GOP the excuse ( Read more... )

I hear your worries and raise you some more concern. However, I hope there will be some serious mileage travelled (or traveled, since you're in the U.S. ;P ) in reversing some of Bush's worst domestic damage over the next few weeks. Iraq, obviously, will be harder.

I haven't followed up your link at the end of the post because I'm at work, but I'm amused already. Already very amused by condoms that purport to be "easy on", since surely this is the opposite of what they are trying to achieve?

Um. Does "easy on" mean something totally opposite in British, or something? Because I read your last sentence three times, and I'm afraid it still doesn't make sense to me. :-(

Got it.

One of the hazards of being a translator/interpreter is that when words have multiple meanings, you learn to only hear the meaning that is meant, so to speak. So while I even got that the opposite of "easy" is "hard," I was still only thinking of the "difficult" meaning for it.

Interesting - I hadn't thought of that!

Does this mean that you hear the message very clearly (i.e. regardless of how it's presented) in things like political speeches, etc?
