This is reposted from
my blog.
The
friendshipmods over at the
HP Friendship Fest have
revealed the authors for this year's stories. There were twenty-four stories with a wide variety of friends and friendships. I really recommend hopping over and taking a look at them all.
Among those I enjoyed, I particularly liked
"Before Peace," which was written by
Primeideal. I've already posted about that one and rec'd it on my
recs page. Characters: Dumbledore's Army, particularly Ravenclaws.
Other fics that I enjoyed and plan to add to my recs page were, in no particular order:
"Sybill Trelawney and the Unexpected Gift" by
SquibstressCharacters: Sybill Trelawney & Minerva McGonagall. (This one was written to a prompt I submitted.)
"Take to the Heather" by
wemyssCharacters: Ernie, Justin, Hannah, Snape, Neville, Blaise.
"Five Times a Conversation Between Professors Lupin and McGonagall Ended in Thanks and One Time ..." by
realmer06Characters: Remus Lupin & Minerva McGonagall.
"Lift Your Glasses High" by
kellychamblissCharacters: Minerva McGonagall & Aberforth Dumbledore.
You may notice that a few of these have Minerva in them -- not much of a surprise, since she's my favorite canon character. But to my own surprise, two of my favorite fics focussed on primarily on student characters, and I don't usually gravitate toward fics about the HP students. I'm certainly glad that I glanced at them and decided to give them a read!
I also wrote a fic for the Friendship Fest:
"Not Entirely Tedious", featuring Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, with brief appearances by Albus Dumbledore, Filius Flitwick, and Pomona Sprout. I plan to post it to AO3, my blog, and elsewhere sometime in the next week or so. In the meantime, if you don't want to wait, hop over and read it on the
HP Friendship Fest Community, and while you're there, do check out some of the other fics -- there are a couple dozen to sample!
"Not Entirely Tedious"Summary:
Young Professor Severus Snape shows up for a meeting, but the only other person there is the Deputy Headmistress. He wants to leave and return later, after the other participants will have arrived, but Professor McGonagall explains why that is impossible. Cross about having his plans for the day disrupted for a meeting that's not taking place, Snape resents having to spend the afternoon with McGonagall. She doesn't seem very pleased, either, but is content to relax and wait. Snape isn't so patient, and soon manages to annoy his companion.
Author's Notes: Canon-compliant, more-or-less, with the books. Not Pottermore compliant. Presumes an older McGonagall, born c. 1924, and a contemporary of Riddle. I enjoyed imagining a young Snape, reluctant Potions instructor at Hogwarts, and how at ease -- or not -- he would be with his colleagues and his position as former Death Eater, and how they, specifically Minerva, would react to him.
