I watched the episode remembering what Javier (the show's creator, for the few who don't know. Don't be embarrassed if that's you, I was one of those few up until last week 0_o) said about the shower scene. I didn't realize before reading his blog that he doesn't intend to pursue MM/WW on screen. He really does view their relationship as a pseudo-father/daughter, mentor/mentee thing.
Oddly enough, that doesn't disturb or worry me. I think I've gotten so used to 'shipping couples that aren't necessarily going to happen on screen (at least for now) that I've become strangely content with letting fandom fill in for what I want to see. Plus, has anyone heard of Reader Response Criticism? In some ways its a crazy theory, but there are elements I like. Basically, it sggests that whatever TPTB decide, it's still a reader's (or in the case of TV, a viewer's) perogative to interpret what he or she has seen.
Does this sound like mumbo jumbo? I don't mean it to be, but I just started school again today and my brain's a little fried.
He did, but don't despair! It still may happen -- one day. There's only one more episode of this season. And, assuming MM is renewed, new seasons tend to mean reinvisioning of all sorts. I don't think it's unrealistic to hold out hope (despite what fans who don't understand the pairing might say, snicker). :)
