Emma: Backstory

She was so tired of all the jobs. Retail in this place, answering phones in another. When she got the clothes-store job, she almost danced in place. It was a bohemian, funky store, where they really didn't give a rat's ass if she sketched when she was bored. And she was bored. It was one of those stores that could sell two outfits all day and still make their sales quotas.

Weeks passed, months passed, and somehow, she was their best saleswoman. It beat the hell out of her how or why, but she wasn't complaining about the job security. Her nights, after she got off, were mostly spent on internet boards discussing the latest Pratchett offering, Mark Cohen's latest film, or her own complaining about the latest horrible art in a comic book.

A couple people had come into the shop and stared when they found out who she was. It was odd to think that she was almost a BNF in the small (but mighty, one of her online friends told her) Pratchett fandom. She closed up after them slightly thoughtful, sketching her surprise when she got home.

The next day was another closing shift. Somehow, the shop's owner thought that if he kept scheduling his best saleslady at night, the sales would go up. It didn't exactly work. About an hour before closing, two people walked in, a blonde man, and... someone else. Even Emma's practiced eye couldn't tell if it was a guy in damn good drag, or not. After a few minutes' conversation, she knew. It was Mark Cohen himself, and Angel, who was, no matter what fandom and the press tried to say, actually a guy.

Eventually, she offered to send him a few of her drawings for concept art ideas. The next day after she sent them, a job offer came in her e-mail inbox. She just stared at it for about ten minutes. It was really wierd to think that because of one random meeting, her life was going to change. Drastically. Looking back years later, she couldn't believe how much it did change. Strange, how no one ever knows what little things will do to one's life.
