Comment with your pup and mine, and I will tell you:

1) Why they don't get along.
2) How my pup's opinion of yours has changed over time.

Or possibly I'll just ramble at you about interactions. You know how it goes.

The thing about Nancy, as far as Kim's seen, is that she doesn't quite get it. Oh, she's closer than most, and a hell of a lot closer than a toff, but she's not . . . ruthless. Kim's world -- not her universe, but the social sphere of London she moves in -- is not pleasant, and nobody would be shocked to hear of a girl running a gang of pickpockets or lightskirts (well, maybe people would be shocked to hear of a girl Nancy's age selling people, if only because the older established madams would not be pleased).

So there's this slight frustration on Kim's part that Nancy seems to think you can live on the streets and still be respectable. If she knew the way Nancy feeds her kids, she'd be friendlier, I think -- certainly impressed.

And then there's the fact that Nancy's nice to her. Kim is still very, very suspicious of the way everyone at Milliways seems to want to help her; she figures the bill'll come due sooner or later. It's not that there aren't any nice people where she comes from -- it's just that they're few and far between, and even then, there's an understanding that they'll be paid back. Kim's not quite sure how to handle Nancy's charity. With others in the bar -- like Prometheus, say, or Hawkgirl -- Kim would cheerfully bilk them out of all the food she can get, because clearly they can afford it. But it don't sit right to sponge off Nancy, not when she's hardly older than Kim and she's taking care of her brother and all those kids. But Kim doesn't know any way to pay her back, and so she'd rather just not get the charity at all.

My guess is, though, that when Kim is adopted by Mairelon, she'll try -- awkwardly -- to help Nancy out, probably by depositing money on her tab when she thinks nobody's looking.

Nita and all of yours she's met would take too long. :O
