Greetings!!
A very, very long time ago (seriously, over a year *blushes*) I asked the lovely
i_am_girlfriday to give me a prompt to cast my very own make believe TV show. :D She gave me an inside look at a small publisher. Awesome, no?
Anyhoo...some of you may remember I posted the beginning of a fic showcasing the first part of Creative Ink (the name of the show) and picked a small indie comic book press as the behind the scenes setting and so became Black Unicorn Comics. Well...I never did get around to doing the cast list and I really want to share it with you. :D Yes...there's a reason that ties into 12 Days of Ficmas...but I'll get to that later...
So...without further ado, we go behind the cut to see my lovely cast. (Please be advised, none of the actors or actresses chosen had to suffer through the dreaded casting couch antics. And yes...I totally tried to pull that. LOL!!)
First up, my main two characters:
For Brian Wells, I chose Jamie Bamber. :P Seriously, who else would I choose?
Next up, Lucy Sanderson. Of course I opted to go with Katee Sackhoff...
And a bit more glamorous:
See how gorgeous they look together?
Brian and Lucy are the writers of their respective creations, but in the comic world...you have to have the art, too. Brian and Lucy's partners in mayhem are Zapf DeVonn and Harry Smith.
Zapf is a young up and comer with buttloads of talent and an uncanny ability to draw exactly what Lucy has in her head. He's also a perfect foil for her, pulling her back when the claws come out...usually in the vicinity of Chelle. :P
I only had one actor in mind for this part. In fact, he was the first person I thought of after the way too easy task of picking my leads. You all might know him as Hardison, the genius hacker from Leverage - Aldis Hodge.
The next role was easy, too. Harry Smith is an almost washed up, very eccentric, dinosaur in the biz, but he's got seriously mad skills. He uses tons of subtlety to create lush images full of layers and depth. Brian knew Harry would be the right guy to draw Xavier's dense world and Harry couldn't be happier to have a partner who puts up with his crazy antics. :D
I pretty much had only one person in mind for this role, too. Patton Oswalt. He can do suave yet snarky (if you watched Caprica, you know what I mean. His Sarno was spot on. :D).
The owner of Black Unicorn inherited the press from his uncle and moved to the US to take over the operation. I wanted someone handsome and maybe a little debonair, but also a guy who could roll up his shirtsleeves and pitch in wherever needed. Richard Armitage seems to fit that bill. And I could buy his character, Reginald Paterson, being best mates with Brian, maybe growing up on the same street in England, and dragging his friend across the pond to realize a long held dream. :D
For Richard's wife, I wanted to go with someone who could pull off old money, but still be able to handle people like Chelle without batting an eyelash. From Firefly/Serenity, Gina Torres, came to mind. Ana Musgrave-Paterson can be the warmest, most friendly person on the planet, opening arms for Reg's extended little family, but...cross her - or go after her husband - and she'll cut the person to shreds with a beautiful smile on her face. :D
And that covers the main six characters. I'll do a second post with secondary cast...Chelle DuPres, Linus Sanderson, Randy Gardner, Social James, and Gray Johnson.
Stay tuned!!
