The news claims that we got 8 inches. I wish my house were at the place in Peoria that got only 8 inches (well, maybe.) In the lowest area of snowing (not in the drifts), it comes up to my knees. Friday morning, a mini van tried driving down the street and got stuck in front of my neighbors house. As Marissa and I were getting dressed to go out and help him, another mini van drove down the street and got stuck in front of my other neighbor's house. We helped dig them both out so they could park along the side of the street. I then went back inside and called Dick to let him know there would be absolutely no way that I would there. He said he couldn't get out either, but he wanted me to call him later to tell him whether I was able to get out or not. Why not just make the decision to close the damned office for one day? Christ, regional and corporate closed, but I'm supposed to gear up in my Arctic snowsuit and trek my ass through mounds of freaking snow to go to work? Yeah...not going to happen. I was out of soda (which is my addiction since I quit smoking) and since Casey's was open, I figured I'd give it a shot. It took three tries to get out of the driveway, but I got it. I thought the whole time that I would get stuck, but I didn't. I ran some stuff over to my mom's and to Becky and Michelle's since they couldn't get out and had to shovel out a couple stuck cars. I really am impressed at the way my Escape handles the snow and ice; I really didn't expect that. I honestly thought I was going to get stuck at some point, but I didn't even come close. Course, I didn't go into work. Going to Casey's is a bit different than driving to work. I did drive past the office today. The lot hasn't been plowed which is going to make parking very interesting tomorrow morning.
Saturday was Ethan's bday party. We were supposed to go to my aunt's, but because there was no where to park due to all the snow, we went to Steak n Shake. I stopped at WalMart to get the cake. I was supposed to pick it up at 11:30 but got there early...which was a good thing. They closed the store and made everyone leave. I heard later that the support rafters were buckling...I'm glad I went early. But anyway, his party went well. He'll have another one on his birthday with the other side of the family and some of his friends.
