I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the Doctor saving those people was a good thing. When he walked right past them and got in the Tardis… I don’t think I’ve hated him that much since the first time I watched “School Reunion.” And when Donna went after him… And then she started yelling, and I could breathe again. I’m glad he went back for them. No - I’m glad they’re alive.
