Exciting morning. . . .

So. . . . .an alarm went of early this morning. It woke me up and I sat up trying to figure out if I had actually heard something, or, if I was just dreaming. I sat there for a good minute, and was just getting ready to lay back down when it went off again. It was just 3 short beeps. I got up and flipped the kitchen light on and stood there, waiting for it to go off again. Nothing happened. I started to feel panicky thinking it was the Carbon monoxide detector so, I went to wake up Joe, who was actually sitting up in bed himself at this point. He said something woke him up, he thought he heard beeps but wasn't sure. So, I go in to wake up Josh, who said now that I was asking, he had heard something too. So, we all stood there trying to figure out what to do. We set the fire detector off and then the carbon monoxide detector off, they sounded almost exactly the same. Joe ended up calling his dad who told us not to worry about it if it wasn't going off again. Yeah, well, that didn't fly with me. LOL I ended up calling the not so emergency number for our police department and they ended up sending out a fire truck.
They got here and had us turn on our hot water in the bathroom and kitchen to make the water heater go on cause they said that would be the only thing it could be. Well, they went downstairs and their little reader thing went off immediately. They were only getting a 3 parts per minute reading, which, is apparently significant enough to cause the alarm to "Warn" us, which, is what it had done, but, not enough to warrant us to leave the house. They turned off the water heater, told us to turn on some fans, open some windows and turn the air back on to circulate everything back out. He also said if it went off again, to call back. They left and Joe went back to bed. Josh and I were sitting on the couch watching TV, it had been about a half hour and all of a sudden both of the alarms in the kids rooms beeped 3 times and then just went off. They didn't stop this time, so, I called again and they said they would send the guys back. We grabbed the boys (briannah stayed the night at my moms) and headed to the front porch. It was a good 5 or 6 minutes later when they got back here and the alarms were still going off. BUT, they got a ZERO reading this time. We were standing there talking to one of the firemen about how it may have just been it circulating through the house that set them off and all of a sudden, they went off again. GRRRR. . . still a 0 reading. So, they told us again to just make sure to call the gas company to look at the water heater and have it turned back on in the morning and told us that there was no threat any longer and left. That was around 5am. They went off again at around 10 to 6 and then again at 6:30. We pulled them off the ceiling at that point and plugged in our older detector. It hasn't gone off since.
The gas company came this morning, checked everything out, found nothing wrong and turned the water heater back on. That was around noon and we have had no problems since. We are going to go buy new detectors for the kids rooms and hopefully we won't have to go through this again.
