On Friday, October 8, I went to
New York Comic Con at the Javits Center. This was the first-time for me; I'm not actually a comic book fan. I do love science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, and a little bit of cosplay, and there was plenty of that. It was pretty amazing to see so many people running around in costumes. One of my highlights was the U.S. premiere of BBC's Sherlock. I saw the first thirty minutes, then left for the Steampunk 101 panel, which was very well-attended. Although Sherlock was excellent, the audience was just a bit too rowdy for me to hear some of the dialogue, so I decided to wait for the television broadcast on October 24. Yes, rowdy Sherlock Holmes fans were in attendance - how cool is that!
Me and Chewy!
Fans in Star Trek: TNG uniforms. The guy is a dead ringer for Will Riker.
Me in Victorian/steampunk attire and Sam as Bruce Lee.
Cute family dressed up as superheroes.
Looking a bit shell-shocked in front of the Maid Stage in the Anime Convention section.
Sam in Bruce Lee pose.
Sam and Yeti? Not sure who the furry guy is.
Scary-looking anime costume.
This had to be the most elaborate fan costume ever. I don't know who he is, but it's kind of scary!
Another view of this huge costume. I think it actually took three guys just to move it around.
At the 'spray-on abs' booth. Yeah, that's what I look like sans clothing!
I think these two are Jean Grey and Wolverine from X-Men, but don't quote me on it.
A video game character - this was a professional costume from the vendor.
The troll was from the same video game as the blue guy above.
This babe in a jumpsuit was running a video game/shuttle simulator.
Okay, I give up. Maybe this is an anime character? Or from a Hayao Miyazaki film?
Lots of anime girls were in attendance, but this might also be a Disney character, I'm not sure.
This has steampunk written all over it, but it's actually a booth for the New York Renaissance Faire, of all things!
Inside joke for Doctor Who fans. Surprisingly, I only saw one Who costume - one of the 80s Doctors with the question marks all over his suit (or else it was Matthew Lesko, the "free money" guy).
The TARDIS! Er, no, it's actually a closet for clothing, but it's still pretty neat.
I don't know, maybe a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Pris from Blade Runner, and the Green Lantern? I am really out of my league here!
This devil fellow had an amazingly detailed airbrushed torso.
Me in front of a booth with faux-vintage paintings.
