Governor's Island Steampunk Picnic and Stroll, Saturday, September 26

Sep 20, 2009 13:31

kittiethedragon  and I are hosting a Steampunk Picnic and Stroll on Governor's Island on Saturday, September 26 and you are all invited.

We'll meet at the Battery Maritime Building at 1:00 p.m. and ride the free ferry together to the Island. We'll probably catch the 1:30 or 2:00 p.m. ferry so be punctual! The last ferry back is 6:30 so we have to get a reasonably early start. If you can't get to the Maritime Building in time to ride the ferry with us, best PM me through my livejournal and get my cell phone number. The island is large and we don't know exactly where we'll be, so don't count on meeting up with us if you must travel separately.
I expect this outing will involve a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. If you're not up for the Stroll, you can remain on the Lawn and meet up with us before we ride the ferry back to Manhattan.

This is a picnic so please bring something to share as well as a blanket to sit on. I'm guessing if you bring enough for ten people, that should be plenty, but there's no way of knowing how many will show up.  If you can't cook, store-bought is fine. Try to aim for festive, picnick-y, or old-timey food since we'll be taking photographs and big bag of Doritos might spoil the shot. Not to say you cannot bring Doritos if that's what you fancy, just put them in a different container.

If you don't want to bother with food, we need non-food items, too:

Forks, knives, spoons, cups, paper plates and napkins - these are essential! If no-one claims these, things might get messy. It might be too expensive for one person to buy all of our tableware so perhaps two people could claim these items.

Water or beverages - I am not sure if there is anything more than a hot dog stand on the island, so this could be important. Beverages are heavy to carry, but at $2 a bottle, buying water from hot dog stands can get expensive.

If anyone is even considering joining us, would you leave a comment below so we can get an idea of how much food to bring? I look forward to seeing you all on the 26th.
