Hi, everyone.
I am coming out of my self-imposed exile with a plea. Texas has been in the news a lot lately, and not in a good way. Among other things, we have a huge humanitarian crisis on our border that is severely burdening not-for-profits in the Rio Grande Valley. We have tens of thousands of unaccompanied children already here from central America and more coming daily. They arrive with little but the clothes on their back after a long and very dangerous journey. Some of them are very, very young.
Regardless of the political debate about the situation, the reality is that the children are here and they must be fed, bathed and generally cared for. The caregivers in the Valley are wonderful people who have really stepped up to help these children. But they need help. They need food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, bedding, clothes ... they need everything.
And you can help them in a very real, tangible way. The Texas Young Democrats have set up a wishlist on Amazon that sends supplies directly to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley which is the official relief/supply collection organization for the refugees’ caregivers. I have checked out the wishlist, the Texas Young Democrats, the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley and Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they are all legitimate.
You can and should check them out as well:

Amazon Wishlist - Help the Refugee Children If you can spare a few dollars for some toothpaste or diapers or underwear for these kids, I am sure they and their caregivers would be very grateful.
Thank you.
