Sad news - The giant fuzzy black caterpillar didn’t make it. He was in exactly the same position on Sunday and showed no signs of creating a cocoon, so I went outside to look closely and check on him and he was definitely not alive. Poor little big guy! I don’t know what happened, maybe he was already not alive on Saturday or maybe he tried pupating and something went wrong. That’s nature for ya, though.
There are spoilers everytheheckwhere! I’m about to go duck and cover. Seriously! I’ll make one food show related post tomorrow and pop in to post a SYTYCD post on Friday morning, but otherwise, I’ll be gone until sometime Saturday when I’ll post “Squee I have my book!!!” and then be gone again until it’s read. That is, assuming I ever read the entire thing. I have issues with endings and closure. I own all 7 seasons of BtVS and have never seen the second half of season 7. That is one of the reasons I’m considering reading the ending first. I know that sounds strange, but I’m concerned that if I do not sit down and read it the second I have the books in my hands, I may never read it.
The wank is also everytheheckwhere and it is magnificent! My fears that it wouldn’t occur were completely unfounded. If this is the tip of the iceberg (and I do believe it is) the HP wank from book seven should replace one of the
newly chosen 7 wonders of the world.
Weekend Movies:
Syriana
This movie was just okay for me. I thought it was confusing and jumpy and poorly written and edited. The acting was mostly quite good. I almost didn’t recognize George Clooney, though I actually preferred him in this to most of his other films. I think this story would work much better in book form. I originally thought it was based on a book and simply didn’t make the transition from paper to film, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. If I’m wrong about that, please let me know, because I would like to read the book if one exists. It could have been an excellent story about greed and obsession with oil, and corruption. Instead, it’s too hard to follow and the storylines don’t really come together very well. As much as the actors attempted to make it work, with this script they couldn’t possibly succeed. I’d give it 2 stars, at most.
Shall We Dance
I watched the Richard Gere version on Sunday. I have the Japanese original on my queue and will see it in a few weeks.
This was a genuinely sweet and fun movie, with lots of wonderful ballroom dancing, great characters and a good story. It’s predictable and typical of a romantic comedy, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable. It’s no Strictly Ballroom, but it was great fun to watch and I highly recommend it.
