So You Think You Can Dance
Okay, now we’ve really hit a point where I don’t want any of them to leave! Thursday is just going to be sad day for me from now on. Boo!
I didn’t like the group dance as much as I have some of the others. Also, I don’t particularly like Fergie on her own or that Glamorous song.
I was not at all surprised by Neil and Lauren being in the bottom three. But Mary saying she was shocked they were there after she was the one pointing out all their errors Wednesday night was a little ridiculous. I like them both, and I’m glad they both stayed, but I think that trip to the bottom three was deserved and should serve as a wake up call. Also, maybe being in the bottom three and turning in an outstanding performance will be enough for the bitter old hags at TWOP to STFU about Neil. Lauren didn’t do a very good job with her solo and Nigel quite correctly called her out on it. Hopefully she learned from that. She looked pretty shaken up.
I wasn’t all that surprised to see Sara and Jesus in the bottom three, either. I think they did a good job with their krumping performance, but it’s not necessarily a well-received dance form and it didn’t stand out as much as some of the other performances did on Wednesday. Sara did a great job with her solo. I thought Jesus did well, too. But more on that in a bit.
The big surprise was Danny and Anya in the bottom two. I really did not expect to be wrong about Shauna and Cedric being there. But duh! Sympathy vote! At any rate, it was indeed nice to see Danny dance a solo. He was also outstanding. And I thought Anya did quite well despite the difficulty ballroom dancers have with solos. She certainly did a lot better than Faina ever did in that regard. I think Nigel was correct in saying the audience simply didn’t vote them into the top four. This makes me want to start voting for them, though.
If I do start voting, it’ll be for Kameron and Lacey, Danny and Anya and Neil and Lauren, because so far those are my favorites. But I really want to see Neil do more ballet/modern/contemporary whatever and less ballroom, since that’s his style.
So, the two voted off ...
I wonder who the dissenting vote was on Jessi. My knee jerk reaction is to think that it was Nigel, but he’s actually the one with the most reason to have wanted to vote her off at this point, since he’s the producer and a dancer with a tendency to dehydration and resulting heart problems would definitely be a liability on a long, hard tour. Her solo was okay, but not spectacular and I think her departure was a foregone conclusion for those liability reasons. But I also think it would have been more fair to her to explain that to her before the show and cut her, and not make her dance a solo. They built her hopes up unnecessarily, and as much as I don’t care for the girl, I feel that was not a very good way to handle the situation. Last night I was kind of annoyed with her, because she came across as being angry and ungracious, but this morning after thinking about it, I’m guessing she was thinking the same thing I am - why didn’t they just let her go and not make her “dance for her life,” if they were going to cut her anyway. And I could tell at the time she was trying very hard not to have a meltdown on TV. In conclusion, it was the right decision to make, but handled very poorly under the circumstances.
Also, props to Pasha for being such a nice guy and staying with Jessi at the hospital.
I can also understand why Jesus was eliminated rather than Neil or Danny. His solo was very good, but theirs were truly outstanding. I will miss Jesus, though. I thought he was a great guy and an excellent dancer with a wonderful attitude.
So now we will have Pasha paired with Sara. I think Pasha is quite likeable. He’s way to brothery and something else undefineable for me to find him sexy, but he is also a really great guy and has adapted to different forms of dance quite well. Sara has formal training in several different styles, also has a good attitude and some adaptability. I think they’ll go pretty far as a team.

Name five remakes that you think are better than the originals.
Um. ... Errr... I’ll get back to you on that, okay?

Presents for everyone!
1. What was the best gift you received?
I can remember a lot of presents I really enjoyed, but the one that means the most to me is a memory book my grandmother created for me about eight years before she died. She grew up on a farm near Mexia, Texas in the 19-teens and twenties and it was fascinating to read what that was like. She also included several antique postcards that were sent to and from my great grandmother and great aunts.
2. What was the worst gift you received?
It’s always the thought that counts, so there are no bad gifts. Actually, no, I do have an answer for this one. One of my friends that I’ve lost contact with once gave me flannel sheets for Christmas. Now, flannel sheets aren’t a bad thing in and of themselves and they were kind of cute, but I get really hot when I sleep and won’t use flannel sheets on my bed and I’d told her that several times, so it kind of bugged that she gave me something that showed she obviously hadn’t been paying attention.
What gift did you wish for, but never got?
More of that memory book from my grandmother. Unfortunately she only wrote a couple of pages. I appreciate what she gave me, but I would have loved more of it!
What was the best present you gave?
This one’s a tie, I think.
Not a necktie, a tie between two different gifts!
One was given inadvertently, to my mother. One year on her birthday after giving her a wrap present (I can’t remember what - probably perfume or something), on a whim I suggested we go for a walk in the park by the house in which she grew up. We stayed there quite a while, and she told me several stories from her childhood. We both had a wonderful time. It’s one of my fondest memories of her. Later she told me it was one of the best presents she’d ever received.
Then there was my present to my sister for her birthday last year - the project I worked on for months that involved scanning all the hundreds of slides our dad had made and writing up my memories of our childhood. I threw some sweets we used to enjoy, and some old-fashioned toys we used to play with in the box, as well. She really enjoyed the pictures and stories the most, though.
What was the worst present you gave?
Oy, this is embarrassing. One year the guy I was dating expressed a lot of interest in a shaving brush, so I decided to get him a nice one for Christmas. I also got the soap that goes with it, and some other personal care things. He took it totally the wrong way and thought I was telling him his personal hygiene wasn’t good enough!
By the way, if you’ve guessed that I firmly believe that time, memories, and sharing are always the best gift, you’ve guessed 100% correctly.
