I haven't been up to much lately. I finally finished my Glinda portrait, though! *POINTS TO ICON* It took me forever, but I am quite pleased with it. I'm planning to draw Adam Lambert (Fiyero understudy in Wicked LA) for my next portrait.
Speaking of Wicked LA, July 8th 2007 was probably one of the best days of my life. Vivian, Chi, and I spent the afternoon wandering around Melrose Street, which basically was a more inexpensive version of Rodeo Drive in Beverley Hills. They had pretty decent stuff, but man, a lot of their fashions were pretty ridiculous.
In the late afternoon, we stopped by this awesome place called Pinkberry's. It had the YUMMIEST frozen yogurt EVER. And I guess everyone knew this, because the line was super long. But my frozen yogurt topped with kiwis, blueberries, and strawberries was damn worth it.
Around 5:00 pm or so, the three of us headed on over to Hollywood, where it was bombarded with traffic. We drove onto Hollywood Boulevard, and once we hit the Chinese Theatre we were blocked off. We soon found out why: the Los Angeles premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was taking place. Which, of course, meant that Dan, Rupert, and Emma were there. I think I sat in five seconds of stunned disbelief before I went frantic trying to take a picture. I didn't succeed, unfortunately.
We finally arrive at the Pantages with some time to spare. As it turned out, Eden Espinosa wasn't going on that night, which meant her standby, Julie Reiber, would be playing Elphaba. I was kind of disappointed, but I had heard awesome things about Julie, so I wasn't devastated.
To put it shortly, the show was fabulous. I was pleasantly surprised by Julie's interpretation and acting; she captured the wide-eyed optimism of Elphie in the first act perfectly and portrayed the hurt and anger in the second act very well. She's a fantastic singer, although her voice can sound a bit too "pretty" during some moments. Julie was so sweet when I met her at the stage door. The girl is way too talented to be a standby; I hope she takes over when Eden leaves the show. She's hot, too. XD
And Megan Hilty? I don't think I can find the right words to describe how wonderful she is as Glinda. She's legendary.
After meeting everyone at the stage door, the three of us went back to Melrose to eat at Pink's for a late-night dinner. BEST. HOTDOGS. EVEEERRRR. Seriously.
