I dug this up the other day. Let's just say that a couple of heart-to-heart conversations with some very good friends and a bit of inspiration from a group of goofy, amazing, awe-inspiring boys has prompted the good kind of nostalgia -- the one that gets me off my butt and back at the keyboard and my personal little guerrilla recording room, armed with songs to sing and a newly rediscovered confidence.
The first and only time I ever sang this was when I turned eighteen in 2003.
To be honest, I'm surprised that I never shared the lyrics here because I have a ton of other lyrics and babbles posted under the
♥ my music tag. But anyway.
I wrote this back in my freshman year of uni and each verse was composed to address and offer a thank you to several significant people who had touched my life.
Now, some of them aren't in my life anymore, by choice or by design. Some still are and have been steadfast like that; and some have come back (this makes me especially happy). But I think that having read through the lyrics again and having had a number of incredibly inspiring heart-to-heart conversations just these last few weeks: the lyrics are still relevant. Very much so.
So yeah, if the lyrics strike something in you, then that just means that I was singing it for you. I just didn't know it yet.
\o\ That's just the way I roll.
Title: Lullaby
Music and Lyrics: Noelle Pico
Used to be a lullaby
Rocking me to sleep
Used to be we stood alone
Looking over the sea
Looking through the crowd
Wondering: Is this me?
Caught our dreams on spiderwebs
And watched as threads gave way
Meant to catch the shooting stars
But they all fade away
In my heart I know we'll stay
And I would breathe for all the things
That matter most to me
I look out to that far horizon
And open my heart to see
There's a whisper in the air
An embrace that's in the wind
And when the sun sets
My lullaby begins
Still believing fairytales
But what is there to lose
Cast your stone into the lake
A wish for me and you
A light I found in you
Break away from all your cares
You have the strength to fly
And should your balance fail you love
I'm right here by your side
There is no need to hide
Precious are the little things
That we all hold so dear
So live your life and dream your dreams
And know that I'm right here
Always be right here
Words that should be meant for you
I lack the skill to say
Now what is left for me to do
But to thank you in every way
Each and every day
And I will keep the memories
Treasured in my heart
And for all that I have yet to make
All of you shall play a part
Through the laughter and the tears
All thoughts in coming years
For all the simple things
This lullaby I sing
I have been so fortunate
To be your little girl
And now my thanks I give to you
As I stand before the world
And I will breathe for all the things
That matter most to me
I'll go look out to that far horizon
Eyes wide so I can see
Heed the whisper in the air
And embrace what's in the wind
And through the dawn breaks
This lullaby will ring
Used to be a lullaby
Rocking me to sleep...
