I love collaborating with friends.
There is something about working in tandem with another creative mind that pushes oneself as an artist; it is that difference in worldview.
No two people will see the same thing the same way, and it is this broadening of ‘sight’ that helps us grow as individuals, as human beings capable of expressing what we feel and know.
Jacki Welsh
dragondreamfire and I have never met face-to-face, and yet she is a kindred spirit who I am grateful to know and have in my life. I look forward to the day when we sit down somewhere together and spend a minute or two, ah hour - an entire day in each other’s company.
When she PMed me over Livejournal over a year ago, proposing a collaboration of our talents, I was not only more than willing, but extremely excited.
There is a thoughtfulness to the way she writes that speaks to my own musings, and a poetry in the way she strings words, images, her opinions and emotions. This song is testament to that.
As I told her, once I finished putting the piece together, the lyrics may differ in some ways from its original incarnation - but the heart and the truth of it is there; and that, I think, is why the music called when I stumbled onto this, over all the other beautiful pieces that she’d offered up for my perusal.
Writing A New Novel
Lyrics: Noelle Pico, Jacki Welsh
Music: Noelle Pico
If this were ordinary
Or you were but a dream
I figure I could wake up and forget
I glimpse that look there in your eyes
And when you smile with compromise
It all makes my heart ache to know
And there is little that I know
By the way of truthful feelings
And I wish I could just think it all away
There are questions that I’m seeking
And if I do no more than nothing
Know that there is more to longing
Than what I’m letting on
So, come on, go on, turn the page
Let me see what’s this you’re writing
Sit and read through
All the fragments, scenes and lines
I want to know your choice of tone,
The words you’re using
Ask the whys the hows the whats
For every bit and scene unfolding
I’ve heard that lovers finding love
Rarely make a brilliant ending
Makes you wonder what
Stories people have to tell
It only takes a breath or two
To claim you’ll find that certain something
That makes me think beyond how fiction is a lie
After all there’s enough of yesterday
To make me think I’ve what it takes
To write the things want to say
But the lie only comes true
If you believe in it enough
And no, I’m not quite there just yet
Because to start’s the hardest part
So, come on, go on, turn the page
I want to understand how making sense
Doesn’t have to be today
I want to open up my hand
And see that patience is enough
A fledgling chapter to a novel about us
