Arithmetic [
listen]
Brooke Fraser
I've been staring at the sky tonight
Marvelling and passing time
Wondering what to do with daylight
Until I can make you mine
You are the one I want
You are the one I want
I've been thinking of changing my mind
It never stays the same for long
But of all the things I know for sure
You're the only certain one
You are the one I want
You are the one I want
I've been counting up all my wrongs
One sorry for each star
See I'd apologise my way to you
If the heavens stretched that far
You are the one I want
You are the one I want
I won't find what I am looking for
If I only "see" by keeping score
'Cos I know now you are so much more
Than arithmetic
'Cos if I add, if I subtract
If I give it all, try to take some back
I've forgotten the freedom that comes from the fact
That you are the sum
So you are the one
I want
When the years are showing on my face
And my strongest days are gone
When my heart and flesh depart this place
From a life that sung your song
You'll still be the one I want
You'll still be the one I want
You'll still be the one I want
You'll still be the one I want
One hour before I head homebound. The boys must be home already.
It's Neal's first day at his summer review class at Expert Guides today, so everyone was up and about this morning. It was kind of funny how Punch looked terribly confused, constantly dogging Neal's steps and standing on his hind legs as if to ask "WHY ARE YOU DRESSED TO GO OUT???"
He ended up coming over to me at one point, looking like a petulant child.

Spent yesterday evening at Starbucks with Joseph, this other regular that Rye my barista friend introduced me to. He's a classically trained guitarist and he's agreed to back me if I need a guitarist and given that there's no conflict in schedules.
He brought one of his guitars (yes, plural, he collects) yesterday and we jammed for a bit. :) He brought numerous pieces, because he reads and has only so far memorized one piece (Starburst, I don't know if you guys are familiar with it). He played the theme from Il Postino and then fiddled with a few other pieces just to share. I haven't been in the company of another classical musician in awhile (though really, I have to wonder where my training went), but it was great to just sit back and listen.
We played around with "Telescope" and "Coffee and Nonsense" for a bit and Rye sat with us during his break. That one's just waiting the percussion instrument (I keep on forgetting a name, but its a Latin instrument) he comissioned to be finished and then we'll all set up a date where we can just jam and figure out the final sound for C&N.
Stayed until about 8:40PM before I jetted off. I texted Mom on the FX home about a little conversation that Joseph and I shared before we did one more run of "Telescope". I had told him that I really loved the arrangement he was playing around with for the song and he'd replied that the strength of the song was in its interpretation because the chords themselves and the tune were simple and repetitive. He suggested adding some strings and we just laughed. Neither he nor I know many people who play those instruments so we'll have to leave that for another time.
I'm looking forward to the prospect of him backing me though. I had my fingers crossed for the May 15 gig at Mag:Net High Street Katipunan (ohgod, Da, sorry, so bangag), but the company he works for has a family day in Enchanted Kingdom. He's thinking of roping this other friend of his to play for me though. Fingers crossed in that department.

Ridiculously hooked on this song. Been looping it since this since this morning. Also, it's also oddly appropriate for the pairing I'm ficcing out just for kicks. :) Getting back to that right now.

Heading to Eastwood for a bit tonight. Here's hoping I bump into Ice even for a bit. \o
