Ok, I finally admit defeat. Last night I made my first attempt at the Plyometrics workout in the P90X sequence: I had previously done the Lean schedule, which doesn't utilize this workout. The regular schedule does it once a week. It killed me.
I made the mistake of trying to keep up at first, which led to a ridiculous heart rate and a little light-headedness, which then required a break. I did the second half at a modified pace and still barely made it. Today my thighs are burning and my ass hurts.
I now have a goal. To make it all the way through Plyometrics without taking extra breaks (in addition to my mid-set break, I also took 30 seconds between repeats in addition to their normal 30 second breaks). In part, I was stupid to jump into Plyo after only four workouts in the past month. But I wanted to try it. And I don't feel too bad about it since this is the only workout that I haven't made it through, and I think I can bring up my performance once I get myself on a regular exercise schedule. That won't happen until February, but now I know what I'm getting myself into.
Tonight I will need some Elliptical running, probably at a lower resistance than normal, to try to get some blood flow through my legs. Ouch.
In other news, I'm waiting for my grant coordinator to get some paperwork organized and then I will be pressing "send" on my first big NSF grant proposal. I don't expect to get it the first time, but I'm still excited to be finishing something this big. I'm also excited to be closer to the end of proposal-writing for the short term - only one more before I leave next week!
