new finds

library, originally uploaded by emlee.
I've always dreamed of having a whole room devoted to a library. At our new house, we have a little nook of sorts for this task. I was so surprised at the number of books I had! I knew that we had a lot, but what a surprise it was to fill up the shelves to quickly and easily. We went to IKEA for the bookcases, and Craigslist for the chair, globe, and camel's saddle. The sheepskin rug is one that my m-i-l got from New Zealand but doesn't have occasion to use in Hawaii. ;) Eventually it will go on the floor.

I'm beginning to love going on these Craigslist adventures with Ryan, I admit it. It's fun to see some of Maryland, as many of our finds are quite a way out from Baltimore. We've seen some beautiful homes and met some very kind people.

The globe in the picture came from this house. It was a beautiful old farmhouse on 11 acres. The inside was so charming. It winds around like old houses do, with tight staircases and a beautiful kitchen with windows wrapping all around the room. The owners filled it with antiques, which they are selling upon their upcoming move to Florida. There was a lard press, a shaker bench, and beautiful old trunks.

At this farmhouse, we also found this spinning wheel! It's actually what brought us to their home. Ryan found it and thought I'd be interested. He's so smart! I've used one of these once before, when I was young at my grandmother's house. She recently sent me a pamphlet on beginning to spin, so now I can hopefully get down to it. I just need some roving. Hey, maybe I could just brush the sheepskin rug and use that for my first attempt! ;)
