scatterbrain, you've been crying in the rain

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a great show. Joss Whedon is a genius. Spike is the most beautiful character ever created (People actually prefer Angel?! pfft i dont believe such fools exist!). James Marsters now stars in 98% of my sexual fantasies. Anyone who says anything bad about him will feel my wrath. Actually, at groove the other day, I was speaking to Rachel (from my group) and Mikey (it guy). Rachel, after at first having no idea who James Marsters was finally said "Oh, the old guy with the peroxide hair?" NO RACHEL. that is not how to describe him! honestly! hahaha Mikey backed me up, saying that there is a certain something about James, something undeniably sexy. He didnt quite use those words, but you get the idea. Anyone who hasnt seen Buffy, I highly recomend it. 6th and 7th season are the best in my view. Although Willow is beautiful in the first three. *Sigh* Spike is great.

I was thinking today about Rolling Stone Magazines. They always have a profile of someone, where they list their all time favourite ten albums and reasons why. I wonder what I would put if i was asked that question. It is not an easy choice. It needs lots of careful consideration. Lots of thought put into it. No hasty decisions. Although my biggest problem would be picking my favourite Prince album. Or at least my favourite few albums. I thought i would give it a try, however. This list is only cautionary, subject to alteration through the course of time (and endurance). Also, i dont know if ill pick any, but I am counting greatest hits or other assorted collections as albums.

1) "GRACE" by JEFF BUCKLEY. A few years ago Jamie burnt me this album and told me that it was the best thing ever. I didnt believe him, so it sat, unlistened to for at least a year. Then one day i happened upon it and have not turned back. This album has gotten me through TEE, Beliefs and values (a.k.a. religion class), heartache, depression, crushes, the lot. Jeff can make you cry or laugh. My favourite has always been "Last goodbye" but each track is beautiful in its way.
2) "SIGN 'O' THE TIMES" by PRINCE. Well, every song is great! I even like "The Cross" - all about religion. This album is great for any mood. Especially for lying on a blanket in the summer evenings reading a book or just daydreaming. Favoeirte tracks include "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" "Starfish and Coffee" "Housequake" "It" "Never Take The Place of your Man" "It Gonna Be A Beautiful Night".
3) "THE WHITE ALBUM" by THE BEATLES. "Rocky Raccoon" isnt that all i need to say? "Why Dont we do it in the road" "Happiness is a warm gun" Classic Beatles. Great fun album. My problem with the Beatles is that I dont really have a favourite album. All the later ones are better, but no stnadout favourites. This was just a logical choice for me, most played. And Poor George, so underrated.
4) "JAGGED LITTLE PILL" by ALANIS MORRISETTE. Brilliant. Emotional and insightful. Who doesnt love this album? This has particular significance to me. When the album came out i love it. I also was going through a phase of "swearing is cool, and even better because im not supposed to do it." However, mum made a rule: i was allowed to swear if it was in context. For example if i was reading it or singing along. This made "You Oughtta Know" my all time favourite song to sing. Until I discovered Limp Bizkit and Korn of course.
5) "LOVE IN THE TIME OF SCIENCE" by EMILIANA TORRINI. I had to wait months and months for this album to come in. I heard "To Be Free" and i instantly knew i needed to hear more. THis is probably one of my most listened to albums. "Tuna Fish" is my most played song from the album. It is so haunting. Her second album was nowhere near as good. She was great in concert too. Very cute, she always looks so innocent. Her voice sounds like she could break at any moment.
6) "CONTROVERSY" by PRINCE. This was my favourite album for so long. Everyone who loves eighties music should check it out. How could you possibly go wrong with a fun album like this? The whole album promotes controversy. Songs about hypocritical christians, sexual promiscuity, masturbation and hand jobs, homosexuality, the list goes on. The title track is one of my all time favourite Prince tracks. but you should see the outfit he wore in the clip! aaargh!
7) "THE BEST OF STING AND THE POLICE". Sting's voice is so comforting. From beginning to end (apart from the P.Diddy remix of Roxanne, before he lost the "Puff" hehehe).
8) "STOP MAKING SENSE" by TALKING HEADS. If you havent heard this album, listen to it now! It is brilliant. Xisca and I used to have pillow fights to this album. Actually, i think we did everything to this album. Pure musical education. Music Genius.
9) "LEFT OF THE MIDDLE" by NATALIE IMBRUGLIA. This really is the soundtrack to my youth. Car trips are defined by this album. It always makes me feel young and innocent, hopeful. This album is greatly underrated and overlooked. She deserves more credit for such a great album.
10) "THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL" her debut album. Many grammy awards. Absolutely deserved. "Ex Factor" is one of the greatest songs ever written. Honestly she is beautiful. And as she says, singing isnt always about hitting the note and sounding perfect. Its raw emotional honesty, and that is her voice all the time, even when rapping. She really was born to be a star.

So that list is absolutely in need of revision. A couple of other Prince albums, some Police albums, Meatloaf, David Bowie, all should be in there, among many others. I will have to think on it some more. I really do relate everything in my life to music. Music is so absolutely, supremely important to my life.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great christmas. Watch Spike/James Marsters, you wont regret it!
