Just a quick update. I got a writing internship this week and started on Friday. I will be working for a PR firm in Oakland writing online articles, blogs, and product reviews. The schedule can be flexible and I can do a lot of work from home which is good. This is definitely a step in the right direction and if I do well, hopefully it can lead to something full-time or at least help me make some new contacts.
With all that's going on, I can't possibly keep my job at Victoria's Secret. I've had one week of trying to juggle three balls in the air and I haven't really started to do any work at the internship yet. So today I let the two managers know what was going on and they were very nice about it, saying they're going to just take me off the schedule for a couple months but keep me in the system so I can come back. As the internship is only for three months, this is great option to have, because who knows where I'll be in three months. Hopefully I will have landed an awesome full-time job by then where I won't need anything extra, but it's nice to know I have a back-up waiting for me, and that I've done such a good job, Victoria's Secret is willing to put keep an arm extended to me. Plus I should still get my discount! Holy crap!
So I'm still extremely busy looking for full-time work in any field that's willing to have me, but I have a couple new things that make me think things are moving in a better direction. I just may be even more busy for the time being, if that's at all humanly possible.
At Huntington, while things have been crazy as usual, I'm working on a new project. I'm organizing and hosting a college fair for our high school students and any students in the area. I really didn't know what to expect, I just sort of had the idea one day when we were brainstorming ways to get new students in the door, and I thought of all the college counseling we do, why not see if this was possible. We've had a really great response so far and a lot of great local colleges have agreed to come out. Hopefully it will be a big event (and as the other director and I were joking other day, maybe it'll be so successful one of the colleges will want to hire me and I can quit the next day!).
