Duran Duran - new album "Astronaut"

Oct 13, 2004 12:09

Duran Duran is back together - Simon, John, Nick, Andy, and Roger - and they've released their first studio album (with the whole group) in 21 years. That would be 1983. Damn, I feel old.

It's called "Astronaut". I heard the song "(Reach Up For The) Sunrise" on Regis and Kelly this morning. Very good. They also played "Hungry Like The Wolf."

Andy said that, before this, the last time they all played together was at Live Aide. Feeling old again.

Duran Duran was my favorite band back in the 80's. And since I haven't really found a favorite band since, I guess they are still my favorite.

Just checked out Rhapsody. They have the album. Cool. Now I don't have to wait till I get the CD.

Well, I left this entry alone for a couple of hours. I'm on my third listen to the album. Very good. No bad songs.

Duran Duran still has that magical ability with me. I can listen to just the music, I can listen to the words and music, or I can let the music background while I do other things. The style must closely match one or more of their previous albums, because for most of the album, I let the music background. It feels more like an old friend, than something new and different.

1. (Reach Up For The) Sunrise
2. Want You More!
3. What Happens Tomorrow
4. Astronaut
5. Bedroom Toys
6. Nice
7. Taste The Summer
8. Finest Hour
9. Chains
10. One Of Those Days
11. Point Of No Return
12. Still Breathing

My favorite songs are the ones from the early 80's. The albums "Duran Duran", "Rio", and "Seven and the Ragged Tiger". I also really liked "Liberty" and "The Wedding Album". I also enjoyed the Arcadia album "So Red the Rose". Simon, Nick, and Roger were involved with Arcadia around the same time that John and Andy were involved in Power Station.

Beyond all the 80's songs they are known for (like "The Reflex", "Rio", "Union of the Snake", "Hungry Like the Wolf", "New Moon on Monday", and "Save a Prayer") ... some of my favorite songs:

"The Chauffeur" from "Rio"
"The Seventh Stranger", "Shadows on Your Side", and "Tiger Tiger" from "Seven and the Ragged Tiger"
"Lady Ice" and "Rose Arcana" from "So Red The Rose" (Arcadia)
"My Antarctica", "Liberty", and "Venice Drowning" from "Liberty"
"Ordinary World" and "Come Undone" from "The Wedding Album"
"Secret Oktober" and "Make Me Smile" from "The Singles Collection"
