Hope everyone had a nice Christmas! Mine was an accurate reflection on who I am. Got about six books on gorillas, one bear book, a wildlife calendar, four documentaries (elephants, orangutans, pandas, baby animals), and one video on Koko, the gorilla who communicates using ASL. I also got the book to go with that last video. Amazingly enough, most of this cost under $5 each. Love Amazon.com for huge savings.

As if that wasn't nice enough, I got the Special Edition dvds of The Lost Boys and Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Finally got Gorillas In the Mist as well, including two books to go with it. Everyone knows me so well. lol.

My day was rather rushed as I was preparing for company again, which means thorough cleaning and brushing of all of the animals. I think I should stick to short-haired pets. lol. My mother arrived at noon, then we went to my grandparents' house. They don't celebrate the holidays, so it was just a "visit". Hung out with them for awhile, then gave the kitten a faux diamond collar, two balls with bells, and a little chase toy. She didn't know what to do with the latter at first, but then she went to town chasing it. Was so cute because she'd play with it for a minute, then she'd come up to me and rub up against my hand. I guess that was her way of saying "thank you". ;) Next came the trip back home in order to prepare for my aunt. She had left a message asking if she could come up earlier, so my mother called back to tell her she could come up now if she wanted. This sent us into a rush because my mother hadn't wrapped all of her presents for her sister and her sister's boyfriend. I wrapped them quickly, then made another quick check to make sure the house was clean (I swear my mother is the compulsive cleaner, not me lol). My aunt arrived and they seemed to enjoy their gifts. She didn't comment on the Scary Movie 3 dvd I got Daniel, but she did smile and give me a look. Hehe. He seemed most pleased with his skull necklace with ruby eyes, which pleased me since it was something I picked out that he hadn't asked for. If I haven't mentioned this before, he has had this obsession with skull necklaces all year. He desperately wanted one, but we could only find a rather cheap looking one that someone forgot to add a jaw to for some reason. Found some real nice ones at Spencers though, so I'm glad he liked my choice.

After everyone left, my mother and I celebrated Christmas. We had pizza since we were too tired to cook a meal, then ended up taking a nap. All in all, it was a rather good day.

As for my gifts, I think I'd now also like to work with orangutans one day. And if I don't decide to do field research later or start it, but don't like being so far from home, then I'd love to learn more ASL for primates. The video of Koko is absolutely amazing. It is hard to watch her (and her lifemate, Michael) and still remember what a bad reputation gorillas have when it comes to encounters with people. Sure, she has the occasional tantrum, but that was when she was going through her adolescence. I've seen women during that time of the month behave in a far more threatening fashion. Can't tell a female human during that time to go for a time-out in her room without getting a good whack. ;) So, yes, I do admire this gorilla's patience. She even helped an interviewer write a story, which was so unbelievably adorable I must have been grinning like a fool. They remind you so much of young children. I'll have to type it up and put it on here!

I also enjoyed my movies, as they both had deleted scenes I had never seen before. The Lost Boys is my favorite movie, even more so now that they added two hours' worth of extras to the latest dvd release. It was easy to see why they cut out most of the deleted scenes, as some just gave absolutely nothing to the storyline, while others just made the scene far too long. As an example, there was this make-out scene that only showed the two making out in the movie. When it first came on I began to wonder if this was a longer scene about what happened after they finished making out, but to my surprise, it was just a long make-out scene. So long, in fact, that it lasted throughout an entire song. lol. Wasn't hard to see why they cut that scene down. ;) But there were two scenes I would have liked to have seen in the movie. One mainly, but the other was needed since a reference was made to it. It was of Grandpa and Sam bonding, basically. I love Grandpa's character, and would have liked to have seen more of him in the movie, as he did end up playing quite a pivotal role, but that isn't the reason I wanted the two scenes. You see, the movie portrayed the bond between the mother and her father, the mother and her two kids, as well as the bond between the two brothers. It didn't really show much of a bond between the grandfather and his grandsons though. Given Michael being out of the house most of the time, I wouldn't expect a deep bond between them, but Sam was always home with his grandfather. It just would've been nice to see more evidence of their time together. But what do I know? I'm a fan of a movie where alien klowns from outer space chase us with balloon dogs, shoot killer popcorn at us, then turn us into cotton candy cocoons. Speaking of which, I should watch that again now that I own it...

I'm glad to see everyone seems to have had a nice holiday. Hope it keeps up into the New Year!

xoxo
