New Years Eve meme

Dec 31, 2007 10:44

Well, I guess it's that time again.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?:
I was a groomsmaid, I ran a triathlon, and went camping in the North Cascades.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?:
I kept three of them, and failed at the other three. I'm not going to make New Years resolutions, but I'm working on a list of things I plan to accomplish before I turn 30 ... so I'll have an extra month.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?:
Yeah, Erin had cute little Mort in January 2007!

4. Did anyone close to you die?:
Tunji and I hadn't been close since early in college, but losing him was still quite a blow.

5. What countries did you visit?:
Costa Rica

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?:
More sunshine, more friends, and neighbors who don't piss me off.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?:
June 30. Packing up to get ready to leave on a family vacation with my in-laws, Riley getting kicked out of the kennel well past the last minute because he was sick, the desperate search for someone to watch Riley, getting everything handled before going out to a wonderful dinner at Machiavelli and an awesome Xavier Rudd show at the Showbox, sleeping for about 1.5 hours before dropping Riley off in Lynnwood at 4:30am, catching a flight out of SeaTac two hours later, and having to catch up on work on the plane. Rarely has a day been so good, so bad, and so exhausting at the same time.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?:
Completing a triathlon

9. What was your biggest failure?:
I don't want to talk about it.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?:
I got sick a few times, but nothing serious this year.

11. What was the best thing you bought?:
I can't think of many things I've bought this year. Probably the red silk dress is the best.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?:
Ray (who's been wonderful), Liz (who's kept my spirits up, when she stays in touch, and who helped with Riley), Dr. Beth Herman (Riley's endocrinologist, and here), Becky Marlow (who got me swimming again and convinced me to try a triathlon, among other things).

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?:
I'd rather not say.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Riley's medical bills

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?:
Summer in Seattle, camping and hiking, getting in touch with old friends.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?:
"Freedom (Part II)", by The Beautiful Girls
And "Walking On The Moon," by The Police (since I saw them at Bonnaroo)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or hardened?: a little of each
ii. thinner or fatter?: about the same
iii. richer or poorer?: about the same

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?:
Camping, dancing, reading

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?:
Working, watching TV

20. How will you be spending Christmas?:
I spent my Christmas in southern Illinois, with each of the three sections of my family. It was a pretty good one this year.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?:
Over and over again. I fell in love with this city, with people and their ideas, with music, with the fleeting feelings of freedom and belonging, and with Ray. Over and over again.

23. How many one-night stands?:
hahaha

24. What was your favorite TV program?:
"Gray's Anatomy" or "Deadwood"

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?:
No. I still hate the same arrogant, troublesome conservative policy makers I hated last year.

26. What was the best book you read?:
That's a tough one. It was either Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro, Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World, by Hakuri Murakami, or The Yiddish Policeman's Union, by Michael Chabon

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?:
Xavier Rudd!

28. What did you want and get?:
A good swimsuit, a season pass at Summit at Snoqualmie, and tickets to Bonnaroo.

29. What did you want and not get?:
Professional respect

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Again with the tough choices. It had to be The Lookout, Sunshine, Juno, or I'm Not There

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?:
I had a little party with a few friends and I turned 28

32. Whats one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?:
If Riley's health issues were resolved.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?:
A few more skirts, a few more colors and patterns, a little more urban or bohemian, but I still default to the jeans, t shirts, and hiking boots or sandals.

34. What kept you sane?:
It's hard to say whether the music and the friends made me more sane, or less ... but they were what got me through the year. And Ray. If Ray weren't there to help me with all of the Riley issues and the test anxiety, I definitely would have lost it.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christian Bale,

36. What political issue stirred you the most?:
The continued war, the housing market, failing creditors, and increasing population in poverty.

37. Who did you miss?:
Bill Clinton in the White House
E, Hannah B, Becky Walling, Erin, Marc, Dan Wright, Bill Renner, Duck, Tim, Gen, Ann, Sean & Sarah, Jacob, Jill, Colleen, Eric, Darren, Hannah H, Cara, and at some point during the year, nearly everyone I've ever cared for.

38. Who was the best new person you met?:
Mark Daneker (I met him before, but got to know him this year), Annie, Shemiah, Alex Warner, and Orion
