I made it. I was a vegan for 14 whole days! (Well, I accidentally ate a cookie without really thinking about it, but otherwise.) Then I gave it up. I'm not sure it's really healthier than being a vegetarian. Sure, it's a good idea to limit the amount of dairy I eat, and to avoid the animal products with added hormones, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to rule them out entirely. Ethically, I've decided that it makes more sense to take the milk and eggs without killing any animals, than it does to kill a plant to eat it's roots. Not that I'm going to give up eating vegetables, of course. There is still the issue of cruel treatment of the cows and chickens that give us the milk and eggs. That's a difficult one to overcome, but I think it's possible to limit it, anyway.

The main things I took away from the experience were these:
- For two weeks I was more conscious of my consumption habits, and that is always a good thing.
- I ate breakfast at Silence Heart Nest twice, and I really like the place. The sesame waffles are awesome, and I look forward to going back there when I can try the eggy scrambles.
- Honey is still better than sugar, even if they are chemically the same thing, and I am so glad to have it back.
- I had actually dreams about cheese by the end of the second week.
- I felt good during those two weeks, but also short tempered, and the positive feelings tracked more closely to sunshine than food.
- I've decided I want to be a better vegetarian ... after thanksgiving.

On the other project ... I've given up on nanowrimo ... again. I just didn't make enough time to write. But I'm not giving up on this novel. It's inside me and dying to come out, I just need to make the time. Somehow. I'm thinking of a weekend in isolation ... a cabin in the woods or something ... with nothing to do but write.
