Wherein I don't discuss aerodynamic fruit...

Work is a little more stressful this year. Not just for me, but everyone. Things aren't coming together like they have in the past. For me, it's stressful because I'd like to help, but there isn't a lot I can do as a paraprofessional. I don't really have decision making authority or even enough information to make an informed decision. The Special Ed team has all this... stuff to organize and plan and set up. There isn't even a better word for it; just stuff because it's all so much and so different.

On top of that, my job is different than past years. I like working with the older kids, but this year has so many younger kids, I have to be with them most of the time. I'm more or less sucking it up, but I feel out of my element.

I don't know. I've got this whole "I feel stressed because my job is hard, but then I feel guilty because it's not harder" thing. It's weird.

There are some pluses. I'm socializing more with work people, which could be a minus if you look at it different : ).

I actually helped at a PTSA fundraiser and didn't explode from working and socializing with the community. But then, who wouldn't enjoy supervising apple races. I was surprised by the number of kids that wanted to race apples down a rain gutter to win a tiny notebook.

Also, I get randomly hugged at school, sometimes by kids I don't recognize. This probably happens more to other teachers, but I find it unusual. Today's count was three, but I recognized them all. I'm going to count this as a plus, even though my initial thought it to be confused and think "What is this human emotion you call 'wuv'?"

Onto a different topic: I'd like to recommend time travel stories; specifically, Booster Gold. It's about a third-string JLAer who saves the time stream, but can never tell anyone. I'm sure there's a better way I could be describing this, but it's totally awesome.

Booster's a cool character for me because he has a history in the DC universe, but you don't have to know it in detail to appreciate his character or the book. He's kinda a doofus that tries to make good and that gives his book a good mix of action, comedy, and seriousness. And because he's such a C-list character, it feel's like he can move in and out of the continuity without the reader thinking he has too much baggage. Like, if it were Superman moving around saving time, people would be all "Hey, aren't you Superman?". Or, "Oh no, what if he meets his past self!?". Or, "Why are we revisiting this story? Booooring."

Besides, I bet all the A-listers would be total know-it-alls about temporal paradoxes and what not. Half the fun of time travel stories is explaining why you can't go back in time and change things. It's even more fun when your hero says, "Maybe we can try it anyway".

There we go. I've been wanting to rant about Booster Gold for a while now. It's just really fun. But if my rant hasn't convinced you, let me leave you with a quote from the most recent issue:

Mr. Freeze: M-Magic hand! A magic hand took my freeze-gun!

Fun with time travel.
