Today ended up being all kinds of awesome!
The day started with my lecture for the class I'm teaching, Concepts of Mathematics. This is only the second class, and I'm trying to overhaul the way the first unit is usually taught, so I get nervous about whether the class is going to go alright. As it turned out, I'd say the class went pretty well.
I'm almost more proud, however, that I got started on planning the next class pretty much right away. It took a lot of work, since I'm now in the situation where there's too much material to present for the available time. However, I think I've worked out a fairly good compromise and a reasonable second HW assignment. My TA and I should be all set for grading tomorrow, and he's showing good work for when he runs Thursday's upcoming class.
However, the big news of the day, which really was probably the reason for this post, was kicking major ass at playing ITG, especially when I thought I was going to have a tired day. After a couple rounds, I pulled stuff like this off:
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN. I was good at this song before, but this came out of the blue. Annoying one excellent...
Immediately following that, however, I beast the hell out of this long song:
Near the end of the day, I got inspired to try getting a triple-star (99%) on Vertex, an official song with a lot of speed changes. I'd usually been pretty hit-or-miss on that song, but my record was around 98.60. I did great in the early sections, though one speedup part kept messing me up for no real good reason... probably bad muscle memory. So I whored the song, and probably played it around 10 times before I finally got this:
I am VERY happy with this. One of the first CMU ITG players could triple-star this song fairly easily, and he joked about how none of the other players ever tripled it once. Well, take that!
