Today was the big ITG tournament at Beaver Valley Mall in Monaca, PA. I picked up
titandude21 at around 8:30am, and we got to the mall around 9:15. The mall had opened at 9, so we didn't really miss much. There was warmup and preregistration... DDR would start at 11, and ITG would start at roughly 12:30pm. I only registered for ITG, and Henry didn't register for either.
I got a bye in Round 1.
Round 2: Jayson / Goemon
I picked: Funk Factory, which is my trump card pretty much... I figured I needed to play it now since Goemon has like 50 quads and would own me on other things. I won 99.30 to 98.08 or so.
He picked: Agent Blatant. This was a mistake on his part, and I won 98.99 to 98.76.
Round 3: Flip
I picked: Kagami. I botched this up since my legs hurt after going so long before the next game (I think 2 or 3 hours), so I lost 98.47 to 98.16. Normally I can triple that song easily.
He picked: Bloodrush. Not a chance on this, and I failed the slowdown. He got 94.5 or so.
Round 4:
ZetoruxThis was especially interesting because a) Phil has craploads of stamina, b) I have a number of songs with better scores than he does, especially easier songs, and c) we both know each other's styles as we both go to CMU.
He picked: Delirium. I was feeling reasonably dead but managed to scrape together a pass. He won roughly 96 to 84.
I picked: Disconnected Mobius. I knew Phil wasn't great at this, but I did pretty crappy too. He got 32 excellents and 2 hold drops, and I got 34, so I won.
Tiebreaker: This is Rock and Roll. I was lucky this came up, and I won, 10 excellents vs. 20.
Round 5: Karl
I picked: Why Me. I needed to play one of my last strong songs, but I was a little inconsistent. He won, 16 excellents to 18.
He picked: Monolith. I had no chance. He won roughly 93 to 79, and I barely passed.
So in the end, I won two matches and lost two. I'm told I should be pretty happy with this, though my skill level really deteriorated in the later matches. I felt pretty ashamed of my lack of stamina compared to some of the people there, and that I somewhat cheated Phil out of a victory. However, this is still a pretty big accomplishment, and some people were happy for me, saying I'd gone quite far. I guess this is true.
It was really a hell of an experience to be there. I wasn't really all that social with people, though there were definitely plenty of people to talk to. People came from all over; there were some Virginians, some people from Ohio, a few from North Carolina, and even some people from Michigan. I am amazed that the world's best people at playing this game are so damn young sometimes, like 15 and 16 years old.
We were there until 10:30pm or so. That's a friggin 14-hour day involved with this tourney. I'm glad I can do this once in a while, though. I'm also glad to come home to ramen... I got really hungry at the end.
