I think the paste Locke put on Boone's head wound was a hallocinogen that made him imagine the monster and Shannon. I still haven't quite digested this episode yet (and will probably have to watch it again, of course!) but I did wonder if his mind was conflating all of his fears and feelings of guilt to make him imagine that.

I think there is a lot more to Shannon than meets the eye. She knows she's being a brat but isn't exactly shameless. She felt remorse, albeit a bit late, about being mean to a passenger who had died in the crash. Being called "useless" also causes a sting for her that wouldn't affect an otherwise heartless person. Doesn't mean that she didn't do all those things Boone remembered/imagined, though. But I'm sure there are other, possibly mitigating, circumstances. (And anyway, I thought I had read somewhere that this week's episode was supposed to be from Shannon's POV, but I guess not. So I'll be interested to hear her side of the story.)

I got that feeling about Locke at the very end of that one episode when he'd been watching Michael return Vincent to Walt. There was a calculating look in hie eye that I didn't like. And he has it in for Michael because Michael's just about the only one on the island (maybe apart from Jack) who isn't taken in by him.
