In roughly two hours, I'm due to be in small claims court in Palo Alto, defending my homeowners association. Normally, the prospect of appearing in court, particularly as the defense, would make me nervous, but for some reason this doesn't. Instead, I'm interested to see how it will all turn out.
I suppose that at least two things are contributing to my calm: that I'm mostly planning on asking for an extension, and that I've talked to the plaintiff and we're going to try to negotiate this. Well, that and it's small claims court; at worst we lose less than $1000. No big deal.
All of this seems very coincidental, considering that I'm thinking of applying to law school for a career change and temporary refuge from the economy.
