Clothes for children (rant)

One of the most irritating things I've recently seen was an eight-year-old at an adventure playground. I'm sure her parents thought she looked good. Plain, simple, cool summer clothing and all that. It was a calf-length cotton dress, and it had a vaguely 'practical but pretty' look.

Pity her dress was so long she'd had to tie it up with a rubber band, which wasn't working, so she kept stopping to try to adjust it so she could climb safely. Also a pity that the top kept slipping to the side and requiring more adjustment. She didn't seem to mind, but one could see her having to keep a constant eye on her clothing instead of focusing on climbing and running.

I know I wear ankle-length dresses and restrictive garments, but that doesn't make them suitable everyday wear for people who are still learning to use their bodies. I'm not sure it makes them suitable for me, actually, but at least I'm making my own decisions.
