My toes feel like the very definition of the word abrasion. Not that it's anyone else's fault but mine. Nobody asked me to keep the pointe shoes on all day; it was my own choice and I can't decide whether that's evidence of my own stubborn nature or a sign of masochism.
Because I was just reading The Believer (which is one of my new favorite magazines, along with Mental Floss), I'm going to copy Nick Hornby and do a books read vs. books bought.
Books Bought (September):
THUD! Terry Pratchett
Anansi Boys Neil Gaiman
On Beauty Zadie Smith
Books Read (September):
The Geographer's Library Jon Fasman
Justice Hall Laurie R. King
Pretty Things Sarra Manning
Teen Idol Meg Cabot
Ready or Not Meg Cabot
THUD! Terry Pratchett
The Devil in the Music Kate Ross
The Arcanum Thomas Wheeler
Anansi Boys Neil Gaiman (started)
Of course the Pratchett was lovely. Sam Vimes is one of my favorite characters in Discworld, so I'm always happy to hear more about him. I like Anansi Boys so far, but haven't read enough to really say much about it. The Meg Cabot and Sarra Manning books were pressed upon me by a 13-year old cousin, who thought I should read them because they're funny. I read the Kate Ross book before, but I had completely forgotten the plot, so I still enjoyed it. Actually, I'd forgotten all about the Julian Kestrel mysteries and reading one again made me remember how much I like them. Kestrel seems like he'd be an irritating character. He's handsome, fashionable, intelligent, speaks multiple languages, sings, plays the piano, shoots, etc., etc... I mean, he's just so accomplished and gallant and noble that he really should be annoying, but he's so likeable. Not at all like Mr. Holmes. Maybe a bit like Lord Peter.
And now it's time for me to indulge my addiction to Alias. I've heard that Michael Vartan gets killed off early in the season, which would be sad, but a terribly good twist. Handsome love interests don't usually get offed in tv land, so it'd be a bit of an interesting shock, I think.
