So, I was like 5 feet (if that) away from Chris Matthews yesterday, in the gift shop at the John F. Kennedy Library/Museum in Boston ! :) He was going through there to get to the room where the forum he was moderating, on the 50th anniversary of JFK's speech was to happen, that I was there to attend (though I also wanted to look around the museum again before it started, which I did). Would've said hi but it happened so fast and he seemed in a hurry, lol. But still, I have to say it was pretty cool to see someone whose show I have been watching on TV for about seven years now, in person! I fully admit to feeling a little star struck. :)
The forum itself was amazing--lots of good insights about the differences and striking similarities of the politics of the 60's and now, and from a pretty progressive standpoint. I thought Chris and EJ Dionne--the author/commentator who has made a lot of appearances on MSNBC and Meet the Press over the years, among other places--made a lot of great points, both about the defining stances JFK took as President and both the differences and striking similarities between the politics of then and now, particularly where President Obama and the challenges he now faces are concerned, the role of the Tea Party/right, etc. Sarah Palin also came up, in not so glowing terms, as you might imagine, lol :)
And Vicki Kennedy was in the audience, too! :) I love that place, the kind you can go to many times and still see and learn new things. Can't wait to see the one they are building near there, for Teddy whenever it's done. There are a lot of things pertaining to him in the JFK library, but I can't wait to see the one that will be dedicated solely to him. I feel he deserves it. :)
The JFK library/museum is one of my favorite places in Boston and in general. I've fallen in love with the city and next year, after my current housing arrangement is up, I'd like to try to live there or closer to it, though it's pretty easy to get there from where I'm living now, by the commuter rail. This is a really great place. I'm really liking my classes and can't wait to get more involved with the various debate teams, etc here as everything settles down and comes together more.
I also might get to see President Obama in Philadelphia (for a rally that's being planned for there) next month and John Kerry (I assume in Boston though info is still forthcoming, on the campaign event(s) he'll be involved in, for local Dems with the elections coming up), which if it pans out, will absolutely make my month if not my year, lol, as I'm (as most of you probably already know or can tell) a huge supporter of his and he is one of my favorite people in general. :) I'm starting to feel really pumped about this election season coming up, even if it does look to be quite a bit more challenging than two years ago. But hey, that's what it's all about, right? :)
Anyhow, there is SO much to write about since I last gave a proper update on here; I'm pressed for time right now, but more will be coming soon!
Hope everyone is well.
