"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." - I John 1:9
"This is one of the many things in the bible that I do not agree with, because if Hitler confessed that he killed millions of people then he is forgiven. Bull. Killing millions of people would never be forgiven. Then the person that steals a pack of gum, and doesn't confess, hes not forgiven? "
I know it would be hard to accept the fact that a criminal like Hitler could go to heaven if he confessed, while a person who only stole a pack of gum and didn't confess wouldn't be saved.
According to the Bible, there is no criminal too horrible to be saved. This is seen in the life of Paul. Paul was known as one of the biggest persecutors of the church, throwing Christians in jail and even stoning them to death. But God was able to work in Paul's life and Paul confessed and if you read the Bible, you will come to realize that Paul is the author of most of the New Testament and one of the founders of the church.
The point for Christianity is the focus is on God, not man. It is not so much about how bad man is, but how great and awesome God is. Jesus Christ died on the cross in place of those who sinned. The price that He paid in shedding His blood is greater than any sin/crime we could ever commit.
Obviously there is more to it than just that. I am just explaining this from a Christian's point of view.
