This is for Booraven22, but of course anyone can read it if interested. She picked 5 things that she associates with me and asks me to elaborate on them. Here goes:

ASATRU: I got into Asatru almost by accident when I was looking into paganism. I had looked into Wicca, Druidism, Shamanism, etc., but none of them really spoke to me. I was doing some research on Iceland when I first found Asatru. I feel it 'fits' me, and I find the Gods and their mythology interesting, and I try to follow the "9 Noble Virtues" as close as I can. I'm not a hard-core reconstructionist or a skin-head 'Folk-ish' type. I consider myself a small 'a' Asatruar.

GOTH BANDS: Back in the '80's when Goth was popular, it got little or no radio play ( with the exception of maybe The Cure). The Goth culture was non-existent, unless you lived in a large urban area. In the small town rural area where I live, everyone was into Heavy Metal(including me)and if someone dared to go out in Goth regalia, they would have been hung. It was in the early-to-mid '90's when a co-worker handed me a Sisters of Mercy CD. It wasn't much later when I went to a now-closed club and heard Cities in Dust by Siouxsie. This was a turning point for me, as Heavy Metal died a quick death and I didn't care too much for the '90's alternative wave. I went dark, both musically and emotionally. I had once been an "art-fag" in the 80's, so it was a good fit. I have never tried to ape the Goth-style, as I could never pull it off. As of now, I've seen the Sisters once down in NYC, and Siouxsie twice.

MUSICALS(non standard): I'm honestly not normally into musicals, but I did LOVE Rocky Horror when I first saw it. It was both funny (in a dark way) and wonderfully subversive. That is probably why I loved Repo! as much as I did. I knew in the first few minutes that I loved it. It's my wife who really loves musicals. Together, we've seen Phantom of the Opera, Mama Mia! and recently Avenue Q. We're hoping to catch a show down on Broadway this summer, and I've heard that Wicked will be coming to a local venue this year.

PHILOSOPHY: Aaarg....you don't really want me to discuss this, do you? I really know nothing about it, and I just use experience and common sense to hopefully guide me correctly rather follow some sort philosophical belief. I suppose you could say I'm a sort-of Social Darwinist, it kind of supports my personal feelings on society and mankind as a whole. If you or anyone else would care to know my true feelings on certain issues, it's probably best to email me to discuss...not in here. :p

FRIENDS: I don't have many friends that live close to me, most live close to an hour away and it's difficult to get together sometimes. Because of that, I tend to form online friendships with people I can connect with in some way. Like 'real-life' friendships, you have to be careful with online friendships with regards to things such as trust. I've been burned many times over the years from people I 'thought' were friends, so now I can sometimes be a bit stoic and aloof which comes across as mean or anti-social (imagine that...who knew?). I now usually keep things very close-chested and I'm much more cautious on what I share with people.

blah blah blah, internet shenanigans, mental musings
