I am also a conservative minded person. I argued with myself over which ideas and views I would put over the other views. Unlike you, I decided for McCain. While I understand what you're saying in this entry, and I agree with you, other things bothered me so much more I couldn't convince myself to vote for Obama. As it is, I honestly think Obama will win, despite my vote. We'll find out in a couple of hours. Cross your fingers?

What issues, if I may ask you, made your priority list?
Myself, being a 19 year old male who has no formal degree and very little higher education so far, assessed my needs and desires and ultimately came up with list of the key issues, and I prioritized accordingly. Here is my list.
1st Priority: School. - I work for an hourly wage. I am not allowed to work overtime. I don't make enough money to support myself on my own (I wish to move away) and pay for a top-notch education at the same time. Under the new President Elect's plan I am offered a $4000 annual tax credit as long as I fulfill 100 hours of community service. That's 40 bucks an hour. For me, an absolute no-brainer.
2nd Priority: Iraq. - I played hockey with a kid about 2 months ago who was in the military. He was scheduled to return to Iraq for a second 6 month term in late September. I have since become good friends with other friends of him who I also play hockey with him. They told me he is a infantry soldier there. First line of defense. The first kids who get blown

CONTINUED
3rd Priority: Taxes. - Not important to me. But my family? My father, a middle aged working class man with a family of four he must support? Obviously a die hard Republican. He probably daydreams about Ronald Regan during is spare time! - John McCain promises him he will make permanent the Bush tax cuts. The current cuts expire in 2010. Once expired, Obama pledges to increase the maximum capital gains rate of couples making more than 250,000/year and individuals making 200,000 - This promise is the first that I see Obama breaking. The numbers don't add up. My family's tax bracket will jump back up to what it was (if not higher) during the Clinton administration. And times were better back then. Those rates in an economy like this? My parent's retirement plans are determined by this. Millions of families across the country! - This ALONE almost had me voting for McCain

I can understand and even agree with your views on..well almost everything you said. Thats what makes this election so hard. Theres so many different factors. A little bit about me.. I'm 18, freshman in college right now in a very middle class family, I'm Catholic.. and I'm actually pretty religious... I'm going to be super in debt when I graduate but I'm paying for a good school, so I think it's worth it

haha, I was thinking about how much fun this is before I even read that you said that. I think it's weird that I've carried on a discussion about politics, one of my least favorite topics. (and yes I am female)
One more thing about Obama: I believe he is influential and brilliant. But also deceiving and dangerously charismatic. I don't have proof for these things, just a feeling.
About the anonymity.. I don't think that you would think we're friends in real life haha. I used to really want to be friends with you, not sure what happened (not that I wouldn't want to be friends now, just that was in the past). But I'm not an enemy either. Also not a creeper/stalker. I promise.
