No witty titles for me tonight :/

...I just got a reminder for my own birthday. What, you think I'd forget something like that, lj? I know I have to work and all, but I'm not that scatter-brained yet. Sheesh.

In other news, I hate compulsory voting (State level, not Federal or local) when it takes ninety minutes of waiting for only ninety seconds actually voting (three names on the paper, only one I recognise, haven't heard any complaints about that guy, okay, he gets my vote ^_^). work managed to lose my dates, then tried to put me on 10-3 this Sunday, when I'd already said I had to go back to uni that Sunday - and this was after I'd submitted my dates for the second time! If I thought I could get a job with such flexible hours anywhere else i probably would, but alas, it is not to be. Not until I graduate from uni, at any rate.

We've decided to get another dog - not to replace Allie, because that just will never happen - because we're all dog people and it just doesn't feel right not to have waggy tails and licky faces to greet us every time we walk through the gates. So that will probably be happening some time after Easter - I think Mum and Dad want to adopt from the RSPCA if they can - when I'll be back at uni, so I'll be a stranger to the poor creature when I come back for my next lot of holidays :P

Dad's now decided to teach me how to drive a manual car - or ute, rather. I'm not very good at it. It requires more coordination than I'm really capable of :/ I stalled it about six times the first time I drove it, trying to get around this one corner - Dad forgot to tell me I needed to keep the revs up! And today I drove it out on the highway, with Dad changing gears while I just put the clutch in and out and accelerated and braked and whatnot when he told me to. Then I stalled going from fourth down to third to go around a corner, then again when trying to start it up, because Dad forgot to change the gear to first instead of third, and it wouldn't take off in third. Yeesh. Automatics are so much easier!

Also, over $800 to get the green slip and then register my car - and that was after $1500 for insurance at market value (which is about $4000), plus however much for the rego check, the machining of the brake rotors which had warped and were making the car shudder every time I braked, and a new tyre since the back left one was nearly bald :/ All this because I'm a female driver under 25, and we're the age group most likely to have an accident. It would have been worse if I was a male under 25. I am ridiculously grateful my parents are paying for it, since it's still technically Dad's car - registered in his name and all, just with me listed as the primary driver. Otherwise I'd have to give up driving (and at least I pay for the petrol?)

And that's pretty much my life for the last week or so. If I can just finish my poetry anthology, maybe I can get to finishing a few fanfic pieces I have lying around. Holidays? What holidays?

life, very technical car stuff, boring shit, lots of tags!, bad drivers, rambly, bitching
