Early morning and bright eyes burning,
Bird songs longer always learning.
Check the mail, but nothing written,
Standing softly as this heart is smitten.
Still to moving and blank to racing,
My body running, yet mind outpacing.
To confide in, where thoughts forbidden,
A place of beauty and feeling unhidden.
Block after block with hands numb, shaking,
My legs carry farther exhausted, aching.
Until buildings fade and memories crumble,
To salty air and the wave’s tumble.
Dry meets wet sand, shimmering together,
As a pelican above, shows each feather.
Gliding effortlessly upon a muffling breeze,
It lifts my sorrow above palm trees.
Adoring this scene, and the moment it steals,
Cleaned wounds of passion, mending and heals.
That lasting tingle, from what rushed inside,
Recedes between breaths, taken with the tide.
Perhaps in time, returning once more,
Love will crest stronger than before.
Until then, I will always have the ocean,
To keep me afloat in storms of emotion.
