“Come on Jack, you’ve got the lift your head up sometime.”
“What’s the point?” came the muffled reply from Jack’s forearms.
“Because then you can’t see me.”
“I don’t want to see you.”
“And why not?” Owen tilted his head to the side and watched Jack’s head slowly move from side to side.
“Leave me alone, Owen.”
“Jack, you can’t stay like this.”
“Why not?” Jack lifted his head up a touch, he could see the rest of his desk and Owen’s legs.
“Because the world needs you. And it’s Christmas!” Owen flung his arms up in the air.
“I don’t do Christmas.”
“Yes you do, remember my first Christmas here? We decorated the Hub with tinsel. Janet even had a Santa hat.”
“That was a few years ago now.”
“Yeah.” Owen laughed, “it was, wasn’t it.”
“What are you doing here, again Owen?”
“Just, bringing you some Christmas cheer.” Owen scoffed, he crouched in front of the desk and looked into Jack’s eyes, “I’ll leave you to it.”

“Tosh?”
“Jack, sorry, I didn’t know where you’d be.”
Jack stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel to cover himself, it was Tosh after all.
“What you doing here?”
“Oh, just wanted to see how you were. It’s Christmas again.” Tosh smiled, and followed Jack as he went into his quarters.
“I know it’s Christmas.”
“Is that why you’re spending it down here?”
“And what’s wrong with that?”
“Nothing.”
Tosh sat on the bed next to Jack, placing a hand on his.
“Tosh?”
“Yes, Jack?”
“What is with 21st century people and Christmas?”
“It’s a good time of year, presents, Owen likes it for the presents. But everyone has their own reasons for celebrating.” Tosh smiled, “You’ll find your reason.”
Tosh gave Jack a final pat on the hand and left him in the darkness.

“Hey Jack.” Gwen smiled, walking towards Jack.
He was standing in front of Tosh’s desk looking over some old CCTV footage.
“Gwen?”
“Did I startle you?” Gwen looked over Jack’s shoulder, she saw herself putting up the tinsel around the Cold Storage area.
“No, no,” Jack smiled weakly, “it’s fine.”
“Oh cheer up!”
“You sound like Owen.”
“Shut up.” Gwen giggled and leaned on Jack, who was still watching the monitors.
“Shouldn’t you be somewhere else?” Jack questioned, finally turning around to face Gwen.
“Well, not right now. Just thought I’d check on you.”
“I’m fine.”
“So you keep saying. You need to start thinking of Christmas as a good time!”
“Gwen.”
“I know, I know.”
“How can I?”
“You’re never too old to celebrate Christmas, Jack.”
“Yeah.”
Gwen held Jack for another minute, she could only watch as Jack walked away into his office.
“Goodbye, Jack.”

“Stop brooding, Jack.”
“Ianto?” Jack jumped out of his bed and watched as Ianto appeared out of the darkness of bathroom.
“Yup, the one and only.”
“I never thought I’d see you again.”
“Seen everyone else I hear.” Ianto came close to Jack.
“Why did it take you so long?”
“Because, I was,” Ianto looked into Jack’s eyes, “I was scared of what it would be like to see you again.”
“I’ve missed you.” Jack broke, he fell into Ianto’s arms, his suit still smelt of aftershave and coffee.
“Four years now, Jack. I’ve spent four years in the darkness. Each one of those years I couldn’t bring myself to see you.”
“I’m sorry, Ianto.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for. We knew what we had to do.”
“I didn’t want to lose you. Or Gwen. Not so soon after Tosh and Owen.” Jack shook his head on Ianto’s shoulder. “I was left with no one.”
Tears began to fall from Ianto as well as Jack now. “I know, and that’s why I’m the one that’s sorry. I was so selfish making you wait to see me again. I just didn’t want to see you like this.”
“I love you Ianto, I always will.”
“I love you too, Jack, and you know I always will.”
Ianto guided Jack back over to his bed and positioned them so that Jack was safe in Ianto’s arms.
“Did the other’s mention me?” Ianto asked, his eyes fixed on his hand that was playing with Jack’s hair.
“No, that’s what made me more worried that I wasn’t going to see you again.”
“Not even Owen?”
Jack let out a short giggle through his tears.
“No. They kept talking about Christmas though.”
Jack tucked himself further into Ianto’s arms.
The room went silent, just for a minute.
“That’s because Christmas is the best time to remember the good times. At Christmas you can recall all those memories of the ones that you’ve loved, and lost. The best time to celebrate the lives of the ones that you’ve lost.”
Jack’s breathing relaxed, he let out a deep sigh and finally fell asleep.
When Jack woke, Ianto was gone, but Jack promised himself that next Christmas would be better.

Jack climbed the step ladder, holding gold tinsel in his hands as he did so. He placed it over the tacks that had been left in the wall from the last time Gwen had put up the tinsel. Jack turned and out of the corner of his eye he saw a slightly movement from the walkway above him.
Ianto, Gwen, Owen and Tosh were resting their forearms on the guard watching over Jack’s movements, smiling widely.
