adventure waits for you
there is a world out there to be explored
looking out of great glass windows
with a primal yearning
watching the snow building up
with instincts a-burning
adventure waits for those who’re brave
adventure waits for those afraid
adventure waits for anyone
to face the night and greet the dawn
to face the task at hand head on
to go out into the great beyond
and live each day
with no thought of what is next
and move forever forward
without pause, nor with regret
and like pioneers, oh, pioneers
we venture forth with lionhearts
for true, “the rest on us depend”
they the finish, and we the start
don’t give up, there is hope for us
as long as we keep vying
‘cause every summit can be topped
as long as we keep climbing
ships weren’t made to stay at bay
but float and drift to faraway
and though you think you’ve lost your way
from the course been lead astray
each unknown is a new way
to venture forth and seize the day
oceans were meant to be crossed
the wilderness meant to remain lost
forests, to be wrapped in mystery
steeped in rumors, ruled by secrecy
abound with great discovery
pursued with sure uncertainty
in trepidation lies your death
while hesitation steals your breath
and the tingling in your chest
is just your fear, not your regret
and you can’t go wrong with progress
only the fool chooses to regress
hurry to adventure, before you forget
hurry to adventure, while the sun has not set
off you are to adventure, your days are not met yet
yes to adventure you must go, no need to reflect
though mud and wind and snow beset
from strife, good and victory is beget
a homecoming (adventure reaches its end)
a wayward glance over your shoulder tells
far is the distance from home traveled
and while fear begins to overtake you
and your breath begins to catch
now angrily swarming about you
are thoughts of your near past
of the ones for whom you cared
those you left waiting unaware
without notice and undeclared
heartless exit, grievances unaired
now a twinge of nostalgia is bared
your weary feet, your heavy heart
the encircled world leads to the start
the journey was fun but it was long
and you just want a land to belong
there is only so much world out there
before you’re drawn back to here
your wanderlust sated
your predator spirit quelled
your furious drifting placated
your adventure days, a fond farewell
shoes unlaced and laid by the door
hung on the wall, a hat not worn
you settle, slide into the easy chair
you scratch the scalp where there was hair
woolen blanket upon your knees
as sleep falls, your heart shows ease
the cold affects you more of late
heavy eyes closed, not to wake
your adventure days, a fond farewell
your journeying and your travels,
gone away and lost to time
the life you spent as vagrant kind
regret had never crossed you mind
and pangs of lonely never stayed your climb
a life fulfilled
a life traveled
a life of adventure filled
