Can I just say I'm proud of myself? I went to the bank and got out money AND talked to the teller and got them to print my routing number on my bank book. I also paid off the outstanding balance on my Toshima insurance at the combini and the entire year's worth of Nishi Tokyo Insurance at city hall. Then I went all the way to Shinagawa's immigration office to apply for the expansion of my work permit to include Eikaiwa stuff.
AND NOBODY HELD MY HAND OR TRANSLATED FOR ME OR ANYTHING! I know it's silly, but to do all that without a problem and in 5 hours or less I feel like the shit. At 25, being a socially functional adult shouldn't please me so. But, at 25, being a socially functional adult EXPAT? Can I be proud of that at least just this first year alone?
I also now own a table and a bookshelf. I NOW OWN 3 WHOLE PIECES OF FURNITURE! I feel like a god.
It also occurs to me now that in any given month I'll probably be the English teacher in one way or another to hundreds of students, child and adult, starting in September. I need to do the exact math. The number is staggering for my ALT work alone. I already calculated and over the course of a typical month I'm the assistant to 35 different teachers. I suppose (6 middle school teachers with 110 students minimum each = 660) + (29 elementary teachers with 35 students average each = 1015) = 1675 kids per month minimum estimate. Same kids each month, mind you. So... yeah.
